A.P. Moller-Maersk is a Danish shipping and logistics group founded in 1904 that operates one of the largest container fleets in the world and has spent the past several years trying to become an integrated logistics company rather than only a carrier. The strategic argument is that container shipping is a brutally cyclical commodity business, while contract logistics, warehousing and air freight produce steadier earnings and deeper customer relationships. Headquartered in Copenhagen and controlled by the Moller family foundation, it also operates APM Terminals, one of the largest port terminal networks globally.

About the role

At Maersk, we’re simplifying global supply chains through end-to-end integrated logistics, moving goods across ocean, air, landside transport, and warehousing with strong technology and a global network. With over 100,000 employees across 130 countries, we work together to shape the future of global trade and logistics.

As HSSE Manager - Mexico, you will lead Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) across Maersk’s warehousing and transportation operations nationwide. Based in Mexico City, this role has responsibility for multiple sites across the country and plays a key leadership role in protecting people, operations, and the environment.

You will manage a team of HSSE professionals and work closely with site leaders and senior stakeholders who do not directly report to you. Success in this role requires strong influence, communication and leadership skills, combined with solid technical knowledge of HSSE regulations and best practices in logistics environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead HSSE strategy and execution for warehousing and transportation operations across Mexico
  • Act as the country HSSE lead, ensuring alignment with Maersk global policies and local legal requirements
  • Manage and develop a team of HSSE Business Partners supporting multiple sites
  • Ensure compliance with Mexican HSSE regulations, internal standards, and external audits
  • Lead investigations of HSSE incidents and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions
  • Partner with site leaders, operations, engineering, construction and other functions to embed HSSE into daily operations
  • Influence senior stakeholders to prioritize safety and environmental performance alongside business results
  • Support rollout of HSSE policies, procedures, training and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Engage with regulatory authorities and external stakeholders when required
  • Travel regularly to warehouses and depots nationwide (approximately 30% travel)

Leadership & management scope

  • People manager responsibility including coaching, performance management and development
  • Accountable for performance and results of a team of HSSE professionals
  • Operates with high autonomy and minimal supervision, seeking guidance on complex or non-routine matters
  • Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address operational and resource challenges
  • Works within well-defined policies while applying judgment to solve practical business issues
  • Progression reflects strong technical expertise combined with people and stakeholder leadership

Who we’re looking for

Required experience & skills

  • 5-10 years of experience in Health, Safety and Environment roles
  • Strong background in warehousing, transportation, logistics or distribution environments
  • Proven experience leading people and influencing stakeholders without direct reporting lines
  • Solid working knowledge of Mexican HSSE regulations and compliance requirements
  • Ability to manage complex situations through influence, collaboration and communication
  • Comfortable operating at both operational and strategic levels
  • Fluent Spanish and English (business proficiency required due to regular interaction with global stakeholders)

Nice to have

  • Experience in large, multi-site or fast-growing operations
  • Background in logistics integrators, transportation companies, e-commerce or distribution networks
  • Experience working in matrix or regional/global organizations

What we offer

  • Opportunity to lead HSSE at a country level for an integrated logistics business
  • High visibility role with strong impact on people, operations and growth
  • Inclusive and collaborative work environment
