A.P. Moller-Maersk is a Danish shipping and logistics group founded in 1904 that operates one of the largest container fleets in the world and has spent the past several years trying to become an integrated logistics company rather than only a carrier. The strategic argument is that container shipping is a brutally cyclical commodity business, while contract logistics, warehousing and air freight produce steadier earnings and deeper customer relationships. Headquartered in Copenhagen and controlled by the Moller family foundation, it also operates APM Terminals, one of the largest port terminal networks globally.

The Procurement Assistant Manager, Logistics & Services supports the Canada Procurement organization by developing procurement intelligence, supplier insights, spend visibility, sourcing analytics, and category support capabilities that enable improved decision-making, cost competitiveness, and business performance.

The role supports a broad range of Logistics & Services categories, including Trucking, Rail, Depots, Warehousing, Distribution, Terminal Operations, and other transportation and logistics-related services. Working closely with Category Managers, Operations, Product, Commercial, and Finance stakeholders, the position provides market intelligence, supplier analysis, sourcing support, contract visibility, value realization tracking, and procurement governance support.

A key objective of the role is to help build a fact-based procurement organization by creating greater visibility into external costs, supplier performance, market dynamics, and category opportunities. The Assistant Manager will support strategic sourcing initiatives and continuous improvement activities while developing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models, should-cost models, external market benchmarks, and commercial insights that drive cost leadership, supplier competitiveness, value creation, and profitable growth across the Canadian business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain visibility of supplier spend, external cost drivers, supplier performance, and procurement opportunities across the Canada Logistics & Services portfolio.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models, should-cost models, and cost-driver analyses to support sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and commercial decision-making.

  • Develop and maintain external market benchmarks, industry cost indicators, and competitive intelligence to identify savings opportunities, improve cost competitiveness, and support profitable growth.

  • Conduct supplier, market, operational, and commercial analyses to support sourcing decisions, category strategies, and business planning.

  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives through RFx development, data analysis, commercial evaluations, supplier assessments, and negotiation preparation.

  • Build and maintain supplier intelligence, including supplier capabilities, capacity, market positioning, risk profile, financial health, and performance information.

  • Track and report procurement value delivery, including savings, cost avoidance, implementation progress, and value realization.

  • Develop management reporting, dashboards, and analytical tools that improve procurement decision-making, category visibility, and business performance.

  • Develop and track metrics and KPIs to monitor procurement performance, supplier compliance, and category outcomes.

  • Support supplier performance management activities, business reviews, and governance processes.

  • Assist with contract visibility, contract management, compliance monitoring, and supplier governance activities.

  • Support supplier ESG and responsible sourcing initiatives by monitoring adherence to Maersk's Supplier Code of Conduct, conducting supplier due diligence, promoting safety and ethical practices, and identifying opportunities to advance Maersk's sustainability objectives.

  • Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Product, Commercial, and Procurement stakeholders to identify cost competitiveness, productivity, and value creation opportunities.

  • Support procurement process improvement, governance initiatives, digitalization efforts, and strategic projects as required.

  • Implement digital sourcing tools, AI-enabled solutions, and other technological advancements to improve scalability and efficiency.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, transportation cost drivers, warehousing economics, labor dynamics, fuel impacts, and other factors influencing Logistics & Services spend categories.
