Job Description Summary

Ensures that suppliers deliver quality parts, materials and services. Works with purchasing, quality and engineering to assist in the resolution of supplier related issues. Performs supplier audits to ensure compliance with quality standards. Evaluates supplier’s internal functions to assess their overall performance and provides feedback to all departments involved. Develops and maintains the internal supplier rating and reporting system.

About the Role

- MAGNA Electronics is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) specialized in semiconductor devices and electronic components. The role focuses on supplier selection, industrialization, and performance management to ensure zero-defect launches and robust serial production.

- MAGNA Electronics is also strengthening its quality culture by developing SDEs toward internationally recognized certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and VDA 6.3 Auditor. The successful candidate is expected to grow into these capabilities as part of their professional development.

Key Responsibilities

- Evaluate and select semiconductor suppliers (IDM, Fabless, Foundry, OSAT) based on technical capability and maturity.

- Lead RFQ risk assessments including technology readiness, wafer fabrication, packaging, and test capability.

- Conduct supplier onboarding and audits (VDA 6.3 P1), including assessment of fabs, assembly/test sites.

- Validate supplier compliance with AEC-Q, JEDEC, automotive qualification, and reliability standards.

- Support APQP and PPAP activities including qualification plans and reliability testing.

- Monitor supplier KPIs (PPM, lead-time stability).

- Support/Lead 8D problem solving for semiconductor-related failures (field returns, yield issues, reliability failures).

- Collaborate with Engineering and Purchasing on design transfer, specifications, and process alignment.

Qualifications

- Degree in Electronics Engineering or similar.

- Proven experience in semiconductor or electronic component supply chain (ICs, sensors, ASICs, etc.) - this is a key requirement.

- Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes (wafer fabrication, assembly, test, reliability).

- Experience with automotive quality standards (IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, ISO) and AEC-Q requirements is highly desirable.

- Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and structured problem solving (8D).

- Certification such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or VDA 6.3 Auditor is considered an advantage.

- Candidates without certifications are encouraged to apply if they bring strong semiconductor expertise and are willing to develop toward CQE certification and VDA 6.3 auditor qualification as part of their role.

- Experience in a decision-making role within supplier quality, engineering, or manufacturing environments is beneficial.
