Magnopus is seeking a Senior Graphics Engineer to help build, scale, and optimise our OKO Unreal Engine plugin and studio-facing Unreal pipelines in the UK.
Working primarily on OKO, our real-time, cross-reality collaboration platform, while also supporting Unreal development across our Studio projects, you'll play a central role in shaping the rendering fidelity and creator workflows that define the experiences we create. This is an opportunity to shape the Unreal experience for a product at the heart of Magnopus' Connected Spaces Platform, influencing the workflows used by creators across web, mobile, XR, and future platforms.
You'll join an established, talented team as a senior Unreal engineer, providing technical leadership across the discipline. While you'll help shape technical direction and mentor those around you, this is a hands-on engineering role rather than a people management position. You'll be solving practical rendering and tooling challenges for a long-term product ecosystem, building technology that evolves over years rather than shipping individual game titles. You'll translate complex rendering requirements into stable, high-performance runtime solutions that look great on everything from VR headsets to web browsers, while creating the tools that allow other developers and artists to move fast.
We're looking for someone equally comfortable designing an editor workflow in the morning and tracking down a rendering bug through Unreal's RHI that afternoon.
What you'll do
- Own key graphics initiatives across the platform, including asset compatibility, lighting, shader and material workflows, and emerging rendering techniques.
- Design and build solutions for runtime asset translation and cross-platform content workflows.
- Design, extend, and implement custom Unreal Editor tools, UI extensions, and automated asset pipelines to accelerate content creation.
- Tackle low-level graphics, optimisation, and profiling challenges to improve rendering performance and visual fidelity across a range of target hardware.
- Set the technical bar for the Unreal team through architecture decisions, robust C++ code, and active code reviews.
- Work directly with the teams building OKO's other clients (web, mobile) and cloud services to ensure the Unreal experience is world-class.
- Help raise the overall capability of the team through knowledge sharing, documentation, and technical guidance.
What will help you succeed in this role
- Significant professional experience developing in C++ within Unreal Engine, with a deep understanding of the engine's codebase and runtime systems.
- Strong graphics and rendering programming foundations, with hands-on experience working within Unreal's rendering code (including the RHI), shader development, and GPU performance profiling.
- Experience building, maintaining, or extending Unreal Editor tools, workflows, or pipelines that other developers or artists have relied on.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical rendering or tooling challenges to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in mentoring peer developers and sharing knowledge across disciplines.
- A track record of creating clarity and driving technical progress within a fast-moving product environment.
Even better if you also have
- Experience with runtime asset loading and asset interchange technologies (such as glTF/GLB or USD).
- Experience with real-time replication, multiplayer, or real-time synchronisation.
- Experience building, maintaining, or distributing Unreal Engine plugins.
- Contributions to open-source software (our underlying Connected Spaces Platform is open source).
We don't expect anyone to tick every box above
If you believe you could be successful in the role and are excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of real-time, cross-reality collaboration at Magnopus, we'd love to hear from you.
