Our Engineering Manager plays an essential role in creating a seamless guest experience by ensuring our property is maintained to the highest standards of luxury, safety, comfort, and operational efficiency.\nYOUR ROLE\nEngineering Leadership & Team Accountability\nLead, supervise, coach, and develop the Engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and exceptional service.\n\nDirect daily engineering operations, assign work orders, establish priorities, and ensure timely completion of all maintenance tasks.\n\nHold engineering team members accountable for completing assigned preventative maintenance responsibilities, maintaining quality standards, and meeting established deadlines.\n\nConduct regular inspections and follow-up assessments to verify that work is completed accurately, efficiently, and to hotel standards.\n\nEstablish clear performance expectations, provide ongoing coaching, and address performance concerns promptly and professionally.\n\nManage engineering schedules, departmental coverage, productivity, and labor efficiency to ensure operational needs are consistently met.\n\nLead by example through a hands-on management approach, assisting with troubleshooting, repairs, and technical projects when necessary.\n\nCollaborate with hotel leadership and department heads to proactively address maintenance concerns and support overall hotel operations.\n\nPreventative Maintenance & Property Standards\nDevelop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all guestrooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, mechanical systems, and hotel equipment.\n\nAssign, track, and verify preventative maintenance tasks to ensure completion according to established schedules and quality expectations.\n\nMaintain accurate records of inspections, work orders, equipment servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.\n\nConduct routine property walks and inspections to identify maintenance concerns before they negatively impact the guest experience.\n\nEnsure all guestrooms, public areas, restaurants, spa facilities, meeting spaces, and employee areas are maintained to luxury hospitality standards.\n\nMonitor the condition, cleanliness, appearance, and functionality of building systems, fixtures, furniture, and equipment.\n\nProactively identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, extend asset life, and minimize costly emergency repairs.\n\nEnsure maintenance projects and repairs are completed with minimal disruption to hotel guests and daily operations.\n\nHVAC, Refrigeration & Technical Operations\nOversee the operation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, and associated mechanical components.\n\nUtilize HVAC and Refrigeration certifications and technical expertise to diagnose system deficiencies and ensure appropriate corrective action.\n\nMonitor and maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems to ensure optimal performance, guest comfort, and energy efficiency.\n\nSupervise the maintenance and repair of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, lighting, and other essential building systems.\n\nCoordinate with outside contractors and specialized vendors for technical repairs, inspections, equipment servicing, and capital improvement projects.\n\nEnsure all technical work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, manufacturer specifications, and hotel policies.\n\nSupport energy conservation initiatives and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.\n\nForbes, Marriott & Luxury Service Standards\nUphold the service expectations associated with a Forbes Four- or Five-Star luxury hotel, ensuring that engineering operations consistently support an exceptional guest experience.\n\nMaintain compliance with applicable Marriott Luxury Collection brand standards, Forbes Travel Guide expectations, and The Joseph's established service culture.\n\nEnsure engineering team members respond promptly, professionally, and discreetly to guest requests and maintenance concerns.\n\nTrain team members on proper guest interaction, professional appearance, service recovery, and respectful communication.\n\nPartner with Front Office, Housekeeping, Spa, Food & Beverage, and other departments to ensure maintenance issues are resolved efficiently and with minimal guest disruption.\n\nTake ownership of guest-related maintenance concerns, ensuring timely follow-through and appropriate communication with hotel leadership.\n\nMaintain an inspection-ready property through consistent attention to detail, proactive maintenance, and accountability.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nMinimum of three (3) years of management experience as an Engineering Manager, with direct responsibility for supervising, directing, and holding engineering or maintenance personnel accountable.\n\nCurrent HVAC Certification - Required.\n\nCurrent Refrigeration Certification - Required.\n\nDemonstrated experience developing, implementing, assigning, and managing preventative maintenance programs.\n\nProven ability to supervise engineering personnel, delegate responsibilities, monitor productivity, and ensure work is completed to established service and quality standards.\n\nStrong technical knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance systems.\n\nExperience managing work orders, maintenance schedules, equipment inspections, and repair documentation.\n\nAbility to diagnose technical problems, prioritize maintenance needs, and implement effective solutions.\n\nStrong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.\n\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hotel environment while maintaining attention to detail.\n\nExperience working with outside vendors, contractors, and service providers.\n\nKnowledge of workplace safety practices, building regulations, and preventative maintenance procedures.\n\nAbility to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins as operational needs require.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nPrevious Engineering Manager experience in a Forbes Four- or Five-Star luxury hotel strongly preferred.\n\nPrevious experience within a Marriott Luxury Collection property or comparable luxury hospitality brand.\n\nFamiliarity with Forbes Travel Guide service standards and Marriott brand requirements.\n\nExperience leading engineering teams in a full-service luxury hotel with multiple food and beverage outlets, spa facilities, and extensive guest amenities.\n\nExperience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to manage work orders and preventative maintenance schedules.\n\nAdditional technical certifications, including EPA Section 608 certification, electrical, plumbing, or other building systems credentials.\n\nExperience supporting hotel renovations, capital projects, and energy management initiatives.\n\nBENEFITS & PERKS\nAt The Joseph and Makeready, taking care of our team is an important part of how we take care of our guests.
