Our team consists of a talented group of individuals with expertise in web operations, systems administration and software engineering. We are charged with designing and creating the foundational technology stack that powers Commerce stores, while building the tools and systems that help engineering teams efficiently develop and deploy Commerce services.\nBigCommerce, part of the Commerce brand family, helps merchants increase sales at every stage of their growth. You might be familiar with this role as a “DevOps Engineer”, but at Commerce, we view DevOps as a philosophy - a set of principles that guide how we collaborate, work together and drive results for our business and customers.\nCurrently you will find us predominantly working in Golang, Ruby, and Scala, backed up by Terraform and Puppet for provisioning and configuration management. We are a remote-first team that values collaboration and prioritizes team over individual achievements, innovative problem solving, and operational efficiency.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nMaintain and improve BigCommerce’s Development Environment consisting of several containerized services\n\nManage cloud hosted VMs in Google Cloud Platform\n\nAutomate repetitive manual processes\n\nMaintain up to date VMs\n\nDocument technical architecture and user features\n\nEducate engineers on tool usage and possible process improvements\n\nAssist in defining the team’s roadmap\n\nWork closely with Engineers to gather requirements\n\nCreate and monitor statistics to observe tooling health and functionality\n\nWork and collaborate with a distributed teams across the world\n\nJoin the team’s on-call rotation\n\nWho You Are:\nAt least 7 years experience as an Infrastructure or Software Engineer\n\nYou’re a trusted engineer who has completed either a comprehensive software engineering, CS, CE, SW, MIS or equivalent degree, or has relevant work experience\n\nKnowledge of configuration management systems such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible (we use Puppet)\n\nExperienced with Linux systems administration, including solid scripting skills (Ruby) and Bash\n\nSolid understanding of modern programming and design principles\n\nYou write tested, maintainable code that you are proud of and you are committed to keeping code quality high\n\nHands-on experience with all aspects of database systems, including provisioning, turning, and disaster recovery\n\nGood communicator who works well with geographically distributed teams\n\nExcited to explore and engage in new languages, tools, and technologies\n\nContribute to project discovery, design, and implementation\n\nExperienced in leading a project initiative\n\nComfortable working on several projects\n\nDesire to work in a collaborative, open environment on an Agile team as a contributor and mentor\n\nHighly proactive and results-oriented with excellent critical thinking skills\n\nWork Where You Thrive\nFor candidates based in the Austin, TX or Atlanta, GA Metro area, this role follows a hybrid work model, with three days per week in the office to balance focused individual work and meaningful in-person collaboration.\nThis description is intended to serve as a summary of key duties and responsibilities and may not contain a comprehensive list of activities.\n(Pay Transparency Range: $149,000.00- $228,000.00)\nCompensation Transparency\nThe national base salary range for this role is posted above in this job post.\nFinal compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications and geographic location.
