Mama Money is a growth-stage fintech on a mission to improve the financial lives of migrants and underserved communities across Africa and beyond. What started in 2015 as a cross-border payments service has grown into a multi-product financial platform. We give people the tools to send, save, and manage money - on their own terms, at a socially fair price.
Mama HQ is in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. We're 157 people strong (and counting), representing 19 countries across Africa, Asia, the UK, and Europe. We've made good progress branding areas in Johannesburg and now need to move faster and go further, adding more signage, posters, flyers, branded umbrellas, cloths and other materials so that these areas genuinely feel like “Mama Money has come to town.” This branding work also directly supports our Agent Network, as agents are identifying that they need growth points established near our branded areas to capture demand.
This role exists to give various regions the dedicated, on-the-ground capacity it needs. Building on the strong results already achieved in Johannesburg, this role will focus on branding new areas across Johannesburg (as per our internal area-prioritisation list) as well as expanding this work into the Gauteng area.
As our Trade Marketing Consultant, you will:
Trade & Brand Marketing Execution: Identify, negotiate and secure new physical branding sites across priority areas in Johannesburg and Gauteng area.
Organise the installation and maintenance of branded signage, posters, flyers, clothes and other trade marketing materials to build a strong, visible Mama Money presence in target areas.
Build and manage relationships with landlords, storeowners, taxi ranks, community leaders and other site “gatekeepers” to secure long-term branding placements.
Continually assess and refresh existing branded sites to keep them in good condition and on-brand.
Supporting the Agent Network: Work closely with the Agent Network team to align branding locations with areas of highest demand and growth potential.
Provide on-the-ground insight to help identify new growth points, ensuring branding and agent expansion reinforce one another.
Reporting & Collaboration: Track progress against area-by-area branding targets for Johannesburg and Pretoria and report regularly on progress.
Collaborate with Marketing and design to ensure consistency of look, feel and message across all physical touchpoints.
Manage a personal vehicle and fuel budget responsibly to cover a wide geographic area efficiently.
What success looks like:
- A visibly stronger, more consistent Mama Money brand presence across priority areas in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
- New branded sites secured at a pace that matches the size of the Johannesburg + Pretoria market.
- Stronger alignment between branded areas and new agent growth points, improving customer access to sign-up and support.
Qualifications and experience:
Proven experience in trade marketing, field marketing, merchandising or a similar on-the-ground brand/sales role.
Strong, confident negotiator who is comfortable building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, from informal traders to landlords.
Self-motivated and highly organised, able to manage a broad geographic area and multiple sites independently.
Comfortable working in the field daily, in all areas including informal settlements and busy transport hubs.
Requirements for the role:
Own reliable vehicle (essential) and a valid driver's licence.
Based in or willing to be based in Johannesburg, with regular travel to Pretoria, but not limited to.
Fluency in English; additional local languages are an advantage.
