Mane is a UK recruitment agency specialising in technical and engineering staff for contract, permanent and international roles.

We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Quantity Surveyor to join a growing project team delivering major High Voltage (HV), substation and electrical infrastructure projects across the power and utilities sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor who understands the delivery of electrical projects and is looking to take ownership of the commercial and contractual performance of major project packages.

Based in Glasgow, you will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Planners, clients and subcontractors, managing projects from initial mobilisation through to completion and final account.

Candidates with a combination of Quantity Surveying experience and an electrical or engineering background will be particularly well suited.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial delivery of assigned HV electrical and substation projects.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, cost reports, BOQs and profit plans.
  • Monitor project expenditure, commitments, costs and overall financial performance.
  • Prepare and submit interim valuations, progress applications and final accounts.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, including valuations, remeasurement, payment certificates and final accounts.
  • Identify, value and manage variations, change orders, dayworks and additional works.
  • Capture and accurately cost site changes, including labour and material costs.
  • Work closely with Planning Engineers to ensure project progress is accurately reflected commercially.
  • Review programmes and assess the commercial impact of delays, changes and programme movements.
  • Identify commercial and contractual risks and ensure these are escalated appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for all commercial activities.
  • Attend commercial meetings with clients, subcontractors and internal project teams.
  • Support the negotiation and agreement of commercial settlements, variations and claims.
  • Ensure contractual obligations and client requirements are understood and properly administered.
  • Provide regular commercial reporting to Project Managers and Senior Management.
  • Support the wider commercial team with contract administration and project financial management.

What We're Looking For

You will ideally have:

  • A third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline.
  • Commercial experience within the electrical, power, utilities, construction or engineering sectors.
  • Experience managing project costs, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • A strong understanding of construction and engineering contracts and their practical application.
  • Excellent Excel skills and confidence working with financial and commercial data.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organisation, administration and record-keeping abilities.
  • The ability to work independently and manage competing commercial priorities.
  • A high level of attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery.

HV & Electrical Experience - Desirable

Experience in any of the following would be highly advantageous:

  • HV electrical projects
  • Substation construction or installation
  • Switchgear installation
  • HV cabling
  • Power transmission and distribution
  • Electrical infrastructure
  • Utilities or M&E contracting
  • Remeasurement, dayworks and change control
  • Preparation and agreement of commercial claims and variations

A technical background as an Electrician, Electrical Engineer, Instrumentation Technician or similar, combined with commercial/QS experience, would also be advantageous.

Commercial & Contract Management

This role will have significant responsibility for ensuring that project costs and commercial claims are accurately captured and administered in accordance with contractual requirements.

You will be responsible for ensuring that:

  • Completed works are accurately measured and valued.
  • Variations, additional works and dayworks are identified and recorded.
  • Labour and material cost changes are captured appropriately.
  • Interim and final accounts are prepared accurately.
  • Commercial claims are supported by robust records and evidence.
  • Contractual deadlines and obligations are maintained.
  • Commercial risks are identified early and communicated to the wider project team.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor who understands the realities of delivering electrical engineering projects.

You will be confident dealing with clients and subcontractors, comfortable working with detailed financial information and capable of identifying commercial opportunities and risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Whether your background is within electrical contracting, power, utilities, infrastructure or engineering, this role offers the opportunity to develop your career while working on technically complex HV and substation projects.
