This role will work closely with GWAM stakeholders in Canada and regional teams across Asia to build scalable data solutions, deliver strategic data products, and establish trusted data foundations for business and analytics initiatives.\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who combines strong Data Engineering expertise with Data Modelling capabilities and enjoys working in a global, collaborative environment. You will play a key role in shaping the data foundation for GWAM Asia while partnering with stakeholders across Asia and Canada.\nExcellent written and spoken English is required, as this role works extensively with business and technology teams in Canada and across Asia.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign and build data products, contributing to the advancement of the overall data product strategy.\nDesign and maintain robust data models, including conceptual, logical, physical, and dimensional models.\nIntegrate data from multiple source systems into enterprise data platforms and data products.\nDesign, develop, and support enterprise-scale data pipelines and integrations.\nBuild ETL/ELT solutions using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Spark, Python, and SQL.\nConduct proof-of-concepts (POCs) for new integration patterns, technologies, and data solutions.\nMaintain and support the Enterprise Data Lake (EDL), ensuring platform stability, reliability, and operational excellence.\nMonitor platform and application performance, recommend infrastructure improvements, and perform code optimization where required.\nInvestigate incidents, support change requests, and drive continuous platform improvements.\nProduce and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and operational runbooks.\nPerform unit testing, system integration testing, and deployment validation.\nSupport Agile delivery teams through design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.\nCollaborate with business, technology, and data stakeholders across Asia and Canada.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.\n10+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, DevOps Engineering, or related technical roles.\nStrong hands-on experience with Azure Data Platform technologies, including:Azure Data Factory\nAzure Databricks\nAzure Synapse Analytics\nAzure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)\nEvent Hubs\nSpark / PySpark\nPython\nSQL / Databricks SQL Warehouse\n\nExperience with database development and management (e.g., Azure SQL, Cosmos DB).\nStrong data modelling experience, including conceptual, logical, physical, and dimensional modelling for enterprise-scale data platforms.\nExperience designing scalable cloud-based data solutions and enterprise data platforms.\nExperience with Change Data Capture (CDC) technologies (e.g., Debezium), streaming technologies, and enterprise data lake architectures.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.\nExperience working in Agile delivery teams.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience in financial services, wealth management, insurance, or asset management.\nKnowledge of data governance, master data management, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.\nUnderstanding of data product concepts, including data domains, reusable data assets, data ownership, data contracts, and business-facing data consumption.\nExperience with AI, Business Intelligence (BI), and/or Generative AI solutions.\nExperience working with global or distributed teams across multiple regions.\nCommunication Requirements\nExcellent written and spoken English is mandatory.\nAbility to communicate effectively with stakeholders in Canada and across Asia.\nStrong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.\nComfortable working in a global, distributed, and multicultural environment.\nWhen you join our team:\nWe’ll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.\nWe’ll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.\nAs part of our global team, we’ll support you in shaping the future you want to see.\nAbout Manulife and John Hancock\nManulife Financial Corporation is a leading international financial services provider, helping people make their decisions easier and lives better.
