Manulife is a Canadian insurance and asset management group founded in Toronto in 1887, with the first Canadian prime minister as its founding president. It sells life and health insurance, annuities and retirement products in Canada, the United States under the John Hancock brand and across a dozen Asian markets, and runs Manulife Investment Management as a global asset manager for institutional and retail clients. Headquartered in Toronto and listed in Toronto, New York and Hong Kong, it earns a growing share of its profit in Asia and has been reducing its exposure to legacy long-term care liabilities through reinsurance transactions.

This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with sourcing, legal, risk, and business stakeholders while gaining exposure to a broad range of commercial contracts, procurement activities, and regulatory requirements. You will build valuable expertise in contract management and legal operations while contributing to a global organization committed to making decisions easier and lives better.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review procurement contracts and other legal documents between Manulife and external parties;

  • Utilize and manage the systems and tools used during the procurement process;

  • Provide contractual and administrative support during procurement activities;

  • Assist with creating and maintaining standard procurement templates;

  • Coordinate with internal Sourcing partners, SMEs, and other business partners to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements;

  • Facilitate contract execution through the appropriate signing tools and ensure signatories comply with internal policies;

  • Ensure adherence to company policies, standards, business procedures, and documentation requirements;

  • Perform legal research as needed to support contractual activities.

This job description is not a comprehensive listing of all job duties required for this role. We reserve the right to change these duties or assign additional duties at any time with or without notice.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB); or completed at least third year status in law school

  • At least two years of experience in contract review, legal assessment, and drafting

  • Strong analytical, research, and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret and negotiate contractual language

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn contract management and procurement systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Willing and able to work night shifts to support global stakeholders and business partners, as needed

  • Experience supporting procurement, sourcing, contract management, or legal operations functions in a corporate environment

  • Knowledge of contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools, e-signature platforms, and procurement systems

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple contracts and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across legal, sourcing, risk, and business teams

  • Experience negotiating commercial contracts and working with internal and external stakeholders to resolve contractual issues

When you join our team:

  • We’ll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.
