Head of Product
Having built a strong lending business serving SMEs across multiple markets, the company is now expanding its product portfolio while embedding AI across the organization to improve how financial services are delivered.
This role exists because Product has become a strategic priority. Today, product ownership sits between Engineering and a junior Product Owner focused on execution - there's no dedicated leader driving strategy, prioritization, or long-term innovation. The Head of Product will be Abaco's first dedicated Product leader, partnering directly with the executive team to build the Product function from the ground up: owning the roadmap across multiple countries and lending products, establishing a data-driven product culture, and shaping the company's AI strategy.
Success looks like a scalable product organization, faster and better product decisions, successful launches of new lending products, and a business that can grow significantly without adding operational complexity.
Product Strategy & Roadmap: own the long-term product vision across multiple products and markets, define priorities based on customer insights and data, and build a scalable strategy aligned with Abaco's growth objectives.
Product Development: lead end-to-end development of new lending products (declining-balance loans, working capital solutions, micro-factoring), translate business opportunities into clear requirements for Engineering, and manage the product backlog.
Cross-functional Leadership: partner closely with Engineering, Data, Risk, Pricing, Operations, Legal, and Collections; build alignment across stakeholders; present product strategy and business cases to senior leadership with financial and commercial credibility.
Product Operations & Analytics: establish product KPIs, success metrics, and experimentation frameworks; collaborate with Data on collection, reporting, and insights; build scalable processes for faster launching and iteration.
AI & Digital Transformation: help define how AI shows up in customer-facing experiences and internal workflows, support the shift toward conversational channels like WhatsApp, and identify automation opportunities across CX, efficiency, and decision-making.
Requirements
Non-negotiables: 8+ years in Product Management, ideally in fintech, lending, embedded finance, or credit; bilingual; demonstrated experience building products or product orgs from scratch; strong commercial acumen balancing customer needs, business goals, and technical execution; close collaboration with Engineering throughout the product lifecycle; highly analytical, data-driven decision-making; comfortable in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments.
Strong plus: B2B lending, SME financial services, or regulated financial institutions; founder or early-stage startup experience; SQL proficiency; experience embedding AI into digital products or business processes; background in small, high-performing product teams.
Nice to have: experience across multiple countries/international markets; familiarity with conversational products or WhatsApp-based CX; exposure to risk, underwriting, or financial operations.
