Whether you’re checking your bank account, buying a coffee, shopping online, making a phone call, listening to music, taking out a loan, or ordering takeout - MariaDB is the backbone of applications used every day. Companies small and large, including 75% of the Fortune 500 run MariaDB, touching the lives of billions of people. With massive reach through Linux distributions, enterprise deployments, and public clouds, MariaDB is uniquely positioned as the leading database for modern application development.\nThe Opportunity\nMariaDB MaxScale is a database proxy that manages traffic between applications and MariaDB server clusters. It functions as an intermediary layer to provide high availability, scalability, and load balancing. Because applications connect to MaxScale as if it were a MariaDB server, complex operations-such as read-write splitting, query limiting, and transparent failover-can be implemented without modifying the application.\nRole Overview\nWe are looking for an engineer to join our Solution QA team to focus on our QA and release management and secondarily on the maintenance of our build infrastructure. MaxScale consists of multiple configurable components, resulting in a high number of potential configurations that require extensive test coverage. While our developers write system tests in a white-box fashion, this role focuses on black-box testing of complex scenarios, the verification of product documentation, and the management of our packaging and release pipelines.\nAs MaxScale and its tests are written in C++, a good working knowledge of the language is expected, along with a solid understanding of SQL. In addition to testing, you will work closely with support engineers and customers to verify and resolve reported problems, and assist in maintaining the automated build system.\nKey Responsibilities\nQA & Technical Investigation\nBlack-Box Testing: Design and execute tests for complex scenarios to ensure various combinations of MaxScale filters and routers work correctly together.\nDocumentation Verification: Review and verify that product documentation is accurate, exhaustive, and reflects the actual behavior of the software.\nCustomer Issue Verification: Act as a technical point of contact for issues escalated by support engineers. You will interact with support and occasionally customers to verify problems, build reproduction environments, and isolate root causes.\nProblem Resolution: Create representative test cases to assist the development team in resolving bugs. You may also contribute code fixes as you become more familiar with the MaxScale codebase.\nBuild & Release Engineering\nRelease Management: Coordinate four maintenance releases per year across five active MaxScale series, ensuring all builds and packages are verified and ready for release on schedule.\nBuild Infrastructure: Monitor and maintain the automated build system. You will troubleshoot build failures across various platforms and manage dependencies within virtual machine environments.\nPackaging: Manage and troubleshoot the creation of DEB and RPM packages for various Linux distributions.\nInfrastructure Development: Gain proficiency in our BuildBot environment (written in Python) to independently implement modifications and improvements to the MaxScale build pipeline.\nExperience and Qualifications\nRequired Skills\nProgramming: A good working knowledge of C++ for test development and understanding the code base. Proficiency in Python is required for build automation and scripting.\nDatabase Knowledge: Strong SQL knowledge and experience with database management systems, preferably MariaDB or MySQL.\nLinux Systems: Experience with Linux environments, including proficiency in DEB and RPM packaging and repository management.\nCI/CD: Practical experience with Jenkins/GitLab/etc.\nTesting & Analysis: Experience in black-box testing and troubleshooting complex software interactions.\nVirtualization and Cloud: Experience using Virtual Machines and cloud platforms for building and testing software.\nPreferred Qualifications\nStrong background specifically with MariaDB architecture.\nHands-on experience with BuildBot (our primary CI tool).\nCandidate Profile\nAnalytical: You are capable of the technical work required to reproduce bugs or diagnose build and packaging failures across different platforms.\nDetail-Oriented: You have a disciplined approach to verifying that documentation matches software behavior.\nCollaborative: You can communicate effectively with support teams and customers to understand and verify technical issues.\nSelf-Directed: You are motivated to learn and manage internal infrastructure to help the team remain agile and self-reliant.\nLocation \nIndia (Remote): You will join our remote distributed team in India.\nWhat We Offer\nMeaningful Work: Contribute to MaxScale, the industry-leading SQL router, and help maintain the infrastructure that keeps global businesses running.\nTechnical Challenge: Engage with a complex C++ and Python stack, solving high-stakes problems in QA, release engineering, and build automation.\nProfessional Growth: Gain deep expertise in MariaDB internals, CI/CD orchestration (BuildBot), and Linux packaging at scale.\nCollaborative Culture: Work alongside a world-class team of engineers in a transparent, supportive, and mission-driven environment\nWhat's in it for you?\nImpact the world of technology by pushing the boundaries of technology and business models, working at MariaDB, plc. Be part of a game-changing organization that encourages outside-the-box thinking, values empowerment, and is truly shaping the future of the software industry.\nYou’ll be collaborating with high-caliber colleagues around the world, offering unparalleled learning and growth opportunities. We provide a very competitive compensation package, 25 days paid annual leave (plus holidays) and a massive degree of flexibility and freedom, and more.\nSalaries for candidates outside the U.S. will vary based on local compensation structures.\nHow to Apply\nIf you are interested in this position, please submit your application along with your resume/CV via our ATS Greenhouse.\nMariaDB does not sponsor work visas or relocation.\n\nMariaDB is committed to providing any necessary accommodations for individuals with disabilities within our application and interview process. To request accommodation due to a disability, please inform your recruiter.\n\nMariaDB will not accept agency resumes without a prior contractual agreement with HR. Please do not forward resumes to any recruiting alias or employee directly. MariaDB is not responsible for any unsolicited resumes.\n\nMariaDB is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6989,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Annual leave","Growth opportunities"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"India","iso":"IN","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":true,"industries":["Databases & DBMS"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-06T14:13:01Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":9,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.337,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":115,"expected_fill_days":31,"reasons":["conf:2","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-11-01T06:10:25Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/mariadb-qa-release-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/mariadb-qa-release-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-01T08:57:54Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":13848,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-02T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":183944},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=183944"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fmariadb-qa-release-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fmariadb-qa-release-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fmariadb-qa-release-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/mariadb-qa-release-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fmariadb-qa-release-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":474518}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"mariadb.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":474518},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
