As a Platform Engineer, you will take ownership of critical platform capabilities that ensure our systems are reliable, scalable, and equally important: enable engineers to build, deploy, and operate software with speed and confidence. \nIn this role, you will operate at the intersection of platform engineering and developer experience (DevEx). You will design and evolve internal platforms as products, reducing friction across the software development lifecycle while maintaining strong standards for reliability, security, and compliance. \nWhile this role includes opportunities to work on observability systems, prior experience in observability platforms is not required - we value engineers who can learn quickly and apply strong platform fundamentals. \nYou’ll use tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, and DataDog to build scalable platform primitives and improve developer workflows across the organization. \nWhat you’ll work on \nOwning and evolving Mark43's internal developer platform, focusing on reliability, scalability, and developer productivity \nBuilding self-service platform capabilities (Infrastructure-as-Code modules, GitOps workflows, golden paths, and onboarding templates) \nImproving developer experience (DevEx) by reducing friction in local development, CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and debugging workflows \nDesigning and optimizing pipeline-as-code systems to improve build performance, reliability, and feedback cycles \nDriving adoption of GitOps and Infrastructure as Code best practices across the organization \nLeading initiatives to improve operational excellence, including system reliability, resilience, and incident response \nPartnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Security teams to align platform capabilities with business needs \nOwning and delivering large, cross-team platform initiatives that shape how engineers build and operate software at MARK43 \nParticipating in a shared on-call rotation to support critical infrastructure \n What we expect from you \n5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, and/or Developer Experience \nStrong experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures \nDeep experience with Kubernetes and containerized systems \nStrong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and GitOps (e.g., ArgoCD) \nExperience building and optimizing CI/CD systems and pipeline-as-code workflows \nDemonstrated ability to improve developer experience and platform usability at scale. \nStrong systems thinking, including tradeoffs between reliability, cost, and developer velocity \nUnderstanding of security and compliance best practices in cloud environments \nWhat sets you apart \nYou take ownership of complex platform problems, from design through adoption \nYou build platforms and abstractions that are adopted across engineering teams \nYou proactively identify gaps in developer workflows and drive improvements \nYou influence technical direction beyond your immediate team \nYou balance developer velocity, reliability, and operational excellence \nYou treat internal platforms as products, with a focus on usability and impact \nPreferred Qualifications \nFamiliarity with defining SLOs, alerting strategies, instrumentation best practices \nExperience with developer platforms and modern build systems \nExperience improving local development environments (e.g., devcontainers, Docker workflows, Tilt/Skaffold) \nExposure to FinOps practices and cost optimization \nExperience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into developer workflows, such as: \nAI-assisted debugging or incident triage \nAutomated incident summaries or developer assistants \nKnowledge of compliance and data governance requirements in regulated environments \nWhat you can expect from us \nA team that values your ideas, ownership, and technical leadership \nThe opportunity to build mission-critical software that directly impacts public safety \nCareer growth in an environment that recognizes and rewards impact \nA highly collaborative culture across Platform, Product, Engineering, Security, and Technical Services \nLocation \nOur team is distributed across the United States, with offices in New York, Boston, and Manchester, UK.
