The primary purpose of this job is to handle claims from coverage enquiry through legal liability assessment (where relevant) and quantum analysis, to timely and accurate resolution; ensuring mitigation of indemnity and expense exposure while communicating developments and outcomes as necessary to all internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the role will be responsible for identifying potential subrogation avenues. The position will have increased responsibility for decision making within their authority and work with minimal oversight and will provide training and be a technical referral point for other team members.Responsibilities \n\nTypically handles moderate to complex exposure personal lines marine bodily injury claims. \nConfirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims.\nDirects and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel, ensures effective vendor and litigation management on moderate to high complexity claims including demonstrable savings\nAnalyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions. Prepares coverage position letters\nUtilizes acceptable investigation claims handling and settlement techniques that achieve cost effective and timely closure results by obtaining, reviewing and analyzing documentation, policy provisions and other records.\nConducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damages\nProvides timely service throughout the life cycle of the claim by meeting all service level agreements, initiating timely contact to all appropriate parties, and responding to incoming inquiries according to company policy and procedures.\nEvaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposure\nSets reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to manager\nNegotiates and settles claims either directly or indirectly \nPrepares reports by collecting and summarizing information\nPresent at roundtables to senior claims leaders and underwriters on higher exposure cases\nParticipates in special projects or assists other team members as requested\nAssists in delivering technical training and/or provides mentorship to colleagues\nTravel to mediations, trials, and conferences as required\nCoordinates loss information for business stakeholders and presents information during meetings with underwriters and/or insureds when applicable\nRequirements\n5+ years of claims or relevant experience\nStrong knowledge of bodily injury claims, including litigation\nProven track record in Customer Service/Experience\nExcellent written and oral communication skills\nStrong organization and time management skills\nExperience in determining contractual obligations, coverage analysis, liability analysis, and investigations\nAbility to direct and manage outside vendors, including surveyors and outside counsel\nAbility to manage complex injury exposures, set loss and expense reserves and evaluate settlement values\nAbility to proactively self-manage an active caseload\nAbility to analyze and convey summations of complex issues, recognize alternative approaches, and develop action plans, both verbally and in written form\nTravel required as necessary (10-15%) \nNon-traditional work schedule may be required\nCollege degree and/or professional designation preferred\nKnowledge of marine insurance a plus\nUS Work Authorization\nUS Work Authorization required. The posted salary range reflects the lowest and highest base salary applicable to this role across our U.S. locations. Individual offers are determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and other job-related factors. As a result, the salary offered for a specific location will fall within a narrower range than the overall range displayed in this posting. This position may also be eligible to participate in the Company's annual incentive plan.
