Assigned larger and more important agents/brokers. Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within assigned territory to properly transact business within each state. Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions. Assist with resolving premium audit disputes within assigned agents/brokers. Able to provide coaching to others.\nDepartment overview:\nThe Marine Division is based in London but has some limited representation in other key business locations.\nWe accept risks in the areas of Hull, Cargo, War, Specie, Liability and Terrorism on a world-wide basis. We\nare leaders in a number of our chosen areas and require a commitment to technical expertise and accuracy\nto maintain this leadership role. A great emphasis is placed on the relationship between the insured and\ninsurer with a focus on meeting clients and producers in their home territories. Business is written through\nboth Markel Syndicate 3000 and Markel International Insurance Company Limited.\nWhat you’ll be doing:\nMaintain War & Terrorism Product Line specific underwriting policies and procedures and collaborate\nwith management, claims, actuarial and product development to institute changes when appropriate.\nUnderwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and\nestablished guidelines.\nUtilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.\nPrepare, coordinate and execute product lines specific training for underwriters and support staff.\nAct as advocate for Markel and the War and Terrorism product lines and communicate regularly with\nunderwriters with authority.\nPromote collaboration with throughout the Markel network to advance line of business profit and\ngrowth goals\nTravel as required when appropriate.\nWhat we’re looking for:\nThe successful candidate will have:\n2 years of current wholesale and/or retail war and terrorism underwriting expertise required;\nMinimum of 0-2 years of proven success training, team building, mentoring and performance\nmanagement of a commercial insurance underwriting team required;\nDemonstrated expertise in delivering superior underwriting results required;\nBroad understanding of claims, actuarial, product development, regulatory and compliance functions;\nUnderstand and enjoy working in a highly matrixed environment;\nUS Work Authorization\nUS Work Authorization required. The posted salary range reflects the lowest and highest base salary applicable to this role across our U.S. locations. As a result, the salary offered for a specific location will fall within a narrower range than the overall range displayed in this posting.
