This position will work with a team of engineers to develop and evaluate established and novel repair technologies through laboratory test programs and commercial subcontracts, supporting stakeholders across the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, shipyards, and Naval Reactors Headquarters.\nNOTE: This position requires regular onsite work at the Bettis location and may be performed remotely up to 10% of the time. An active DOE L clearance is required. Some travel to vendors and shipyards will be required to support project planning, equipment testing, and repair deployment.\nResponsibilities\nSupport repair technology development efforts through laboratory testing and commercial subcontract activities.\nPlan, coordinate, and execute engineering work efforts involving established and novel repair technologies.\nDevelop technical designs, instructions, and procedures supporting repair technology development.\nLead test programs in laboratory environments and through commercial subcontract efforts.\nContribute to the development of novel repair techniques.\nDraft, place, monitor, and report on subcontracted repair method development and demonstration contracts.\nSupport repair efforts involving epoxy and composite technologies, mechanical and machining processes, and arc welding technologies.\nDevelop and interpret engineering specifications, drawings, and standards.\nPlan and execute engineering test programs.\nDesign experiments supporting repair technology development and evaluation.\nAnalyze experimental results and assist with the preparation of technical reports.\nApply digital design and CAD capabilities to engineering activities.\nSupport the use of digital data acquisition hardware and software, as applicable.\nLead and execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.\nWork with vendors and shipyards to develop, test, evaluate, and ultimately qualify repair procedures.\nCollaborate with stakeholders and support organizations across the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, shipyards, and Naval Reactors Headquarters.\nTravel to vendors and shipyards to support project planning, equipment testing, and repair deployment activities.\nQualifications\nRequired:\nMust have an active DOE L clearance to be considered.An active DoD Secret or above may be considered as well.\n\nBachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; OR\nMaster of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.\nAbility, or ability to learn, to develop and interpret specifications, drawings, and engineering standards.\nAbility to plan and execute test programs.\nAbility to design experiments and analyze experimental results.\nAbility to assist with the preparation of technical reports.\nDigital design and CAD skills.\nAbility to lead and execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.\nDesired:\nKnowledge of materials engineering.\nBackground in industrial operations.\nFamiliarity with digital data acquisition hardware and software.\nExperience or ability to support the development, testing, evaluation, and eventual qualification of repair procedures in laboratory environments or through vendors and shipyards.\nStrong individual initiative and creativity.\nSalary Range\nUSD $120,000.00 - USD $127,000.00 /Yr.The Markon pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
