This role is ideal for an experienced developer with strong Java skills, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to collaborate with business stakeholders, technical team members, and external partners to deliver practical, maintainable solutions.\nThe Senior Java Software Engineer will report to the IT Delivery Manager and work closely with IT, business stakeholders, and external partners to deliver and support enterprise application solutions. This role is hybrid Chicago (working one day per week from the office). Compensation and benefits will be discussed during the recruiting process and will be based on experience, qualifications, and location.\nKey Responsibilities\nSoftware Delivery & Operations\nDesign, develop, test, deploy, and support Java-based enterprise applications and related integrations.\nContribute to reliable software delivery through effective use of version control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment practices.\nSupport production applications by troubleshooting issues, improving stability, and participating in operational support as needed.\nEvaluate, refactor, and modernize legacy applications to improve performance, maintainability, scalability, and alignment with current technology standards.\nTechnical & Business Expertise\nDevelop a strong understanding of application functionality, data models, integrations, and supporting business processes.\nTranslate business and technical requirements into well-designed, maintainable software solutions.\nTroubleshoot complex technical issues across applications, APIs, integrations, databases, and data pipelines.\nProcess & Continuous Improvement\nApply and promote engineering best practices in code quality, testing, release management, documentation, and monitoring.\nIdentify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve application reliability, maintainability, and developer productivity.\nCollaborate with stakeholders and team members to improve system usability, functionality, and alignment with business needs.\nCollaboration & Communication\nCollaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, architects, administrators, other developers, and external vendors to clarify requirements and deliver effective solutions.\nCommunicate technical concepts, progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nProvide technical guidance and support to teammates through code reviews, design discussions, troubleshooting, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.\nRequired Qualifications\nStrong proficiency in Java/Jakarta EE software development, including object-oriented design, application architecture, debugging, and maintainable coding practices.\nProficient with both JavaScript and SQL for front-end, back-end, or full-stack development, including working knowledge of relational databases.\nSolid understanding of object-oriented design, application architecture, APIs, databases, integration patterns, data pipelines, and secure coding practices.\nExperience working in a team-based software delivery environment using source control, testing, deployment practices, and continuous integration/continuous delivery tools.\nStrong understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, and secure coding practices.\nAbility to analyze complex problems and deliver practical, maintainable solutions.\nExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly understand complex systems, data models, and technical dependencies.\nStrong communication skills; able to present technical concepts in business-friendly terms.\nExperience working in Agile delivery environments utilizing Scrum or similar methodologies and collaborating with cross-functional teams\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.\nExperience with Open Liberty or similar Java application server platforms.\nExperience integrating with Microsoft Dynamics 365, finance, CRM, or operations-related systems is a plus.\nExperience with .NET is a plus, or willingness to learn and contribute to .NET-based applications as needed.\nDemonstrated ability to leverage AI-assisted development tools while maintaining strong software engineering discipline, code quality standards, and security practices.\nExperience\n5+ years of experience in software development, application engineering, and/or systems integration with a primary focus on Java development.\nEducation\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field is preferred.\nPay Range: $ $130,000.-$140,000.\nFollowing receipt of a conditional offer of employment, candidates will be required to complete additional job-related screening processesas permitted or required by applicable law.\nWe are an equal opportunity employer, and all applicants will be considered for employment without attention to their membership in any protected class.
