The DevCon product serves as the enterprise's self-service platform for infrastructure provisioning, application onboarding, platform operations, and cloud automation, enabling development teams to deliver software faster, more securely, and with greater operational consistency. Its architecture includes UI Portal, Automation APIs, Workflow Engine, and relies on Infrastructure as Code automation, and other platform integrations.\nThis leader owns the day-to-day operation of the DevCon team, balancing product strategy, engineering execution, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership. The ideal candidate combines strong platform engineering expertise with a product mindset, enabling them to translate developer needs into a strategic platform roadmap while delivering measurable improvements to developer experience and engineering productivity. The Director will foster a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement, ensuring the team is empowered to deliver robust, secure, and scalable solutions. This leader will work closely with stakeholders across Global Technology and the business to align priorities, drive adoption of best practices, and deliver measurable business outcomes.\nCANDIDATE PROFILE\nRequired Skills and Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, software engineering or related field or equivalent experience/certification \n8+ years’ progressive software engineering, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering experience including: \n5+ years of engineering management experience leading technical teams and delivering enterprise-scale solutions \nProven experience owning and operating a developer platform, platform engineering function, or engineering product \nHands-on experience with cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes, microservices, and distributed systems \nExperience implementing Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform or comparable technologies. \nExperience working with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal and event-driven architectures \nStrong understanding of modern software development practices and full-stack application architectures. \nDeep knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and operational excellence. \nStrong technical product management and roadmap planning capabilities. \nExceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills. \nPreferred:\nGraduate degree in a technical discipline \nExperience leading Internal Developer Platform (IDP) initiatives with a focus on product strategy. \nExperience building self-service engineering platforms and developer portals. \nExperience with Python, TypeScript, React, FastAPI, Temporal, and modern cloud-native development patterns \nExperience leading organizational transformation through platform engineering practices. \nExperience with AI-powered developer tooling and platform automation. \nExperience operating highly available enterprise platforms serving multiple engineering organizations. \nCORE WORK ACTIVITIES\nTeam Leadership & Delivery\nLead and develop a high-performing engineering team responsible for the Internal Developer Platform. \nEstablish team objectives, priorities, operating rhythms, and delivery commitments. \nDrive engineering excellence through mentorship, coaching, hiring, talent development, and succession planning. \nFoster a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. \nRemove organizational blockers and ensure successful execution of platform initiatives. \nProduct Strategy & Platform Ownership\nServe as the product leader, partnering with engineering, cloud, security, infrastructure, and application teams to understand developer needs and platform opportunities. \nDefine and manage the platform roadmap, prioritizing investments that improve developer experience, productivity, reliability, and operational maturity. \nBalance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform sustainability. \nEstablish adoption metrics, success criteria, and feedback mechanisms to continually improve the platform. \nPlatform Engineering & Technical Leadership\nProvide technical leadership to both their team, and collaborating functions \nPartner closely with platform architects to define technical direction and architectural standards. \nEnsure platform capabilities are scalable, secure, reliable, and aligned with enterprise technology strategy. \nParticipate in architectural reviews and major technical decisions. \nStakeholder & Executive Engagement\nBuild strong relationships with engineering leaders, product teams, cloud organizations, and executive stakeholders. \nCommunicate platform strategy, progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership. \nAdvocate for developer experience and platform investments across the organization. \nManage competing priorities while aligning stakeholders around shared outcomes. \nAt Marriott International, we are dedicated to being an equal opportunity employer, welcoming all and providing access to opportunity.
