Professional Responsibilities\nPatient Management:\nCares - remembering that the patient’s well being is the first priority.\nContinually improve the quality of patient care through studying veterinary journals and\ntexts and by attending seminars. VCA has established a minimum 30-hour per year\nrequirement for continuing education for each veterinarian.\nPerform examinations, diagnostic, medical, surgical and dental procedures in a way that\nwill deliver the highest quality care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort.\nRecommend referral to one of the other VCA doctors or a specialist when this is likely to\nsignificantly improve the prognosis.\nClient Management:\nWill promote and participate in the principles of the VCA Mission Statement, Three Steps\nof Service and VCA Standards of Client Service and that the above is known and\npracticed by all employees.\nDevelop rapport with clients.\nDetermine client’s needs and wishes.\nQuestion the client to ascertain the patient’s past medical and surgical history as well as\na description of the current presenting signs.\nExplain physical examination findings.\nRecommend the appropriate preventive health care, including vaccines and appropriate\nnutritional products and protocols.\nRecommend and explain plans for diagnostic procedures and for medical and surgical\ntherapies; methods for home care procedures and follow up plans.\nGive the client a prognosis of the pet’s problems.\nGenerate fee estimates for recommended procedures and presents them to the client.\nKeep clients informed regarding the status of their pet and results of diagnostic tests.\nProvide telephone consultation, including follow-up calls for progress reports, etc.\nAdministrative Management:\nMaintenance of client/patient medical/surgical records.\nPage 3 of 4\n1. Completely “SOAP” the patients medical records:\nS = Subjective analysis of problem (history)\nO = Objective analysis of problem (symptoms)\nA = Assessment of problem (diagnosis)\nP = Plan of dealing with problem (treatment)\n2. Make certain all necessary logs are kept up to date through established protocols\nand guidelines:\nSurgical logs\nNarcotics logs\nRadiology logs\nLaboratory logs\nAny other logs\nAccurately charge clients for all services performed.\nParticipate in the planning, execution and analysis of various methods of improving\ndelivery of services to clients.\nSupport and participate in VCA marketing and promotional events and programs.\nReady to report to work when the need arises.\nContribute to maintenance of a comfortable, clean and safe environment of which the\nclients, the staff and the management can be proud.\nStaff Management: Professional Staff:\nEnsure an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect.\nKeep patient records complete and up-to-date to assist colleagues in follow-up and\nfuture management of the patient.\nProvide consultation when requested and assisting with diagnostic, treatment and\nsurgical procedures.\nEnsure that credit is accurately given for procedures performed by each veterinarian.\nMaintain communication with clients when their pet’s primary veterinarian is not\navailable.\nStaff Management: Technicians/Assistants:\nMaintain an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect.\nClearly prescribe detailed directions regarding drug doses, routes, times, and rates for\nadministration, diagnostic medical, surgical and dental procedures and instructions for\npatient monitoring.\nAssist technicians where necessary and fostering an educational environment.\nProvide instruction in client education, diagnostic and treatment procedures, and\nanesthesia, care of instruments, surgical assisting and dentistry.\nStaff Management: Receptionists\nMaintain an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect.\nExpedite the generation of fee estimates for recommended procedures and the invoicing\nof client charges for outpatients and for patients to be discharged.\nClearly record information, in a timely manner, regarding medications and supplies being\ndispensed.\nPage 4 of 4\nAssist receptionists in providing answers to client’s questions.\nProvide education regarding basic pet health to assist them in advising clients when\nscheduling appointments for examinations and various procedures.\nProfessional Responsibilities:\nHonesty in dealing with clients and colleagues.\nMaintain an attitude and appearance that reflect favorably on the profession.\nEmpathy for colleagues when questions of clinical judgment arise.\nShare information and concerns with other members of the profession by attending\nveterinary meetings regularly.\nProvide advice and encouragement to potential newcomers to the profession.\nRepresent the hospital to the professional community and the general public as\nrequested.\nModel an “owner” mentality in hospital by demonstrating willingness to assist all\nemployees for the success of the hospital.\nCompensation:\nSalary: $80,000.00 / annual\nIf you are a current associate, you need to apply through our internal career site.
