This role will be based in Sandton, hybrid and has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.\nWe are seeking a hands-on, commercially minded Mining Lead with a strong mining engineering pedigree to drive value for mining clients across Africa through innovative risk management and engineering consulting. The successful candidate will be a technical “heavy hitter” in mining engineering who can shift client conversations from transactional surveys to value-adding consulting engagements, expand PRC penetration into the broking mining client base, lead a team to deliver revenue and NOI targets, and raise the visibility of our capabilities across mining networks and forums.\nWe will count on you to:\nClient value creation and delivery\nLead high-value consulting engineering engagements for mining clients that move beyond transactional surveys to risk-informed, strategic solutions that support clients’ operational and business objectives.\n\nDesign and deliver survey and consulting scopes that clearly articulate client value (risk reduction, operational resilience, capital prioritization, insurance optimisation).\n\nTranslate technical findings into actionable commercial recommendations for clients and broking partners.\n\nBusiness development & growth\nDrive adoption of PRC and other Risk Consulting services within the broking mining client base.\n\nIdentify, pursue and convert new and expanded opportunities with existing clients and prospects across the mining sector.\n\nCreate market visibility through presentations, participation in industry forums, technical papers, and targeted client workshops.\n\nLeadership, people & capability building\nLead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and early-career consultants; foster transfer of technical skills and consulting best practices.\n\nSet clear objectives and accountability for revenue, NOI and utilisation; monitor performance and course-correct as needed.\n\nCreate scalable ways of working, standard methodologies, templates and knowledge products to elevate quality and consistency.\n\nCollaboration & cross-functional working\nWork closely with the Mining Industry Leader, Client Service teams, broking teams, strategy consultants and Marsh’s global mining community to leverage expertise, co-sell services and deliver integrated solutions.\n\nAct as the primary technical escalation point for complex client issues and ensure seamless delivery between consulting and broking functions.\n\nParticipate in global mining community initiatives and collaborate on cross-border projects.\n\nThought leadership & external engagement\nRepresent Marsh at mining conferences, technical forums and client events; publish thought leadership that highlights innovative risk management approaches.\n\nBuild relationships with key technical influencers, insurers, reinsurers and industry associations to enhance Marsh’s reputation and create referral pathways.\n\nCommercial & operational accountability\nOwn revenue and NOI targets for assigned territory and service lines; prepare accurate forecasts and manage pipeline.\n\nEnsure efficient project delivery, margin management, and high client satisfaction.\n\nMaintain rigorous risk management and quality assurance on all technical outputs.\n\nWhat you need to have:\nBachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related engineering discipline (required).\n\nMinimum 10 years’ professional experience in mining engineering; significant time in operational/technical roles.\n\nProven track record in consulting, technical project delivery or operational leadership on large-scale mining operations.\n\nPostgraduate qualification in business, management or related field is advantageous.\n\nExperience in insurance, risk management, PRC-style surveys or working with brokers/insurers is highly advantageous.\n\nDemonstrable experience leading teams, coaching junior staff and delivering commercial results.\n\nTechnical skills & competencies:\nDeep technical expertise in mine engineering practices, risk assessment methodologies, site survey execution and technical reporting.\n\nStrong commercial acumen: ability to build scopes, price consulting work, and manage margins.\n\nExcellent client-facing skills: consultative selling, negotiating, and relationship management.\n\nOutstanding written and verbal communication;
