Combining outstanding design, quality and sustainability, our market-leading range of paving, kerbs, edgings and street furniture helps create places where people live, work and connect.\nWe're now recruiting for a Steel Machinist Operator, ( known within Marshalls as a Skilled Production Team Member),to join our busy manufacturing department at our North Shields site.\nWhat's the mission?\n In this hands on role, you’ll set up and operate a range of workshop machinery to produce high quality metal components to the required specifications. This will include working with manual lathes and milling machines, as well as carrying out drilling, tapping and reaming operations. You’ll also use metal bending and rolling equipment, abrasive wheels, grinders and other workshop machinery, selecting the appropriate tooling, cutting speeds and feeds for different materials and tasks. You’ll be confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances, and using precision measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometres and gauges to ensure accuracy.\nYou’ll take responsibility for checking the quality of finished components, identifying and reporting any defects, machinery faults or quality concerns, and carrying out routine machine maintenance to keep equipment in good working order. You’ll maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment, following all company health and safety procedures and ensuring machinery and abrasive wheels are used correctly. Working both independently and as part of the wider team, you’ll manage your workload effectively to meet production schedules and deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.\nWhat are the mission-critical skills?\nProven experience as a Metal Machinist, Manual Machinist, Fabricator/Machinist or similar role.\nStrong practical experience with lathes, milling machines and drilling machines.\nExperience using bending and rolling machinery.\nCompetent and experienced in the use of abrasive wheels and grinders.\nAbility to read and understand engineering drawings.\nGood knowledge of metalworking processes, tooling and materials.\nAbility to use precision measuring equipment accurately.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.\nGood understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team.\nWhy join Marshalls?\n Our colleagues have been at the heart of Marshalls for generations and will continue to be the driving force behind our success for generations to come.
