Whether you’re taking the direct route or trying a new path, we’ll support you no matter what.\nThe Role_\n// At Masabi, we're powering the journeys of millions by making public transport payments simple, accessible, and seamless.\nWe're looking for Systems Engineers to connect our Justride platform to the physical world: the validators, faregates, fareboxes, point of sale terminals and onboard vehicle systems that riders and operators use every day. You'll work across the device-to-cloud boundary, from SDKs running on fare collection equipment and our Android point of sale app to the cloud services that configure and monitor them.\nAs part of a cross-functional team, you'll work closely with engineers, testers and product partners to take features from idea to production. What you build is what riders tap, scan and rely on every day.\nLocation_\n// This is a fully remote contract role for people based in India, working a shifted pattern to align with UK working hours as much as possible\nResponsibilities_\nIntegrate and maintain Justride SDKs on embedded and hardware-enabled devices, including fare media validation, NFC and contactless EMV tap handling, and barcode payloads\n\nBuild and maintain features in our Android point of sale app, including integration with card readers, NFC readers and printers\n\nBuild and maintain on-device services and integration proxies that connect to onboard vehicle systems such as GPS and AVL\n\nContribute to cloud services that support devices, such as remote configuration and software updates\n\nWrite clean, well-tested code and contribute to code reviews, CI pipelines, infrastructure as code, monitoring and releases for the components you work on\n\nTroubleshoot issues across devices and the cloud using logs, metrics and lab hardware\n\nTake part in feature refinement and technical discussions, and help shape solutions\n\nTake ownership of your work and support team outcomes\n\nAbout You_\nClear, confident communication in written and spoken English\n\n2 or more years of commercial software engineering experience\n\nSolid programming skills in at least one language, and happy to pick up others\n\nComfortable working across the stack, from cloud services down to device-level concerns\n\nExperience building or running services on AWS or another major cloud platform\n\nA solid grounding in testing (unit, integration and contract tests), Git workflows, CI/CD and Docker\n\nAble to work through ambiguous problems and ask for help when needed\n\nCollaborative and team-oriented, happy to share knowledge and learn from others\n\nNice to Have_\nExperience with Java/Kotlin, Go or C\n\nAndroid development experience\n\nEmbedded Linux experience (Yocto, systemd, cross-compilation)\n\nFamiliarity with NFC, smartcards or EMV contactless\n\nExperience with Terraform/Terragrunt, gRPC and Protobuf\n\nExperience in security-sensitive environments (PCI, key management) or with hardware-in-the-loop testing\n\nKnowledge of transit, ticketing or IoT device fleets\n\nWe don't expect you to tick every box.
