Job Summary

Clinical Nurse Educator - Pre-Operative & Post-Anesthesia Care (PACU)

Are you passionate about developing nurses, advancing clinical excellence, and shaping the future of perioperative care? Join our team as a Clinical Nurse Educator at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital.

In this highly visible role, you will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of innovative education and training programs for nursing staff within our Pre-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU). As a trusted clinical expert, mentor, and educator, you will champion evidence-based practice, ensure staff competence and regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Working closely with nursing leadership, preceptors, and interdisciplinary teams, you will help onboard new staff, elevate clinical skills, and drive quality outcomes across the perioperative continuum.

What You'll Do:

- Lead the development, implementation, and enhancement of orientation, education, and competency programs tailored to Pre-Op and PACU practice.

- Create engaging curricula, training materials, simulations, and learning experiences aligned with evidence-based standards and organizational priorities.

- Facilitate dynamic educational sessions, workshops, and continuing education opportunities that inspire lifelong learning.

- Assess and validate clinical competencies to promote safe, high-quality patient care and outstanding clinical outcomes.

- Support and mentor new team members, novice nurses, students, and preceptors through structured onboarding and professional development programs.

- Identify learning opportunities and empower staff to achieve their clinical and career growth goals.

- Serve as a clinical resource and subject matter expert in perioperative nursing, patient preparation, anesthesia recovery, patient safety, and quality improvement.

- Partner with department leadership to address performance improvement opportunities through targeted education and coaching.

- Track and maintain educational records, competency assessments, certifications, and learner outcomes to ensure compliance and excellence.

- Promote adherence to accreditation, regulatory, and organizational standards related to education, competency, and patient care.

Work Environment:

- Collaborate daily with patients, families, nurses, physicians, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.

- Work within the fast-paced and rewarding environments of Pre-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care units.

- Enjoy a role that offers variety, including classroom instruction, simulation-based learning, bedside coaching, and program development.

- Flexibility may be required to support educational needs across multiple shifts and departmental schedules.

- Remain actively involved in clinical practice through skills demonstrations, competency validation, and staff support.

Qualifications

Experience:

- 2-3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in Pre-Operative, PACU, Perioperative Services, Ambulatory Surgery, Critical Care, Emergency Department, or Surgical Services required.

- 1-2 years of clinical education experience preferred.

- 1-2 years of nursing leadership, charge nurse, preceptor, or supervisory experience preferred.

Education:

- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.

- Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.

- This role cannot accept experience in lieu of a degree.

Licenses and Certifications:

- Current MA Registered Nurse (RN) license required.

- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.

- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor (ACLS Instructor) Certification.

Preferred Specialty Certifications:

- Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN)

- Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA)

- Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC)

These certifications are preferred and support expertise in perioperative and recovery nursing education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- In-depth knowledge of perioperative nursing care, anesthesia recovery, and clinical nursing principles.

- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and patient advocacy skills.

- Expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based care practices and educational programs.

- Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements related to perioperative and recovery services.

- Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, patients, and families.

- Leadership and coaching skills to mentor staff and foster professional development.

- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs), learning management systems, and healthcare technology.

- Ability to analyze data and identify trends to support quality improvement and educational initiatives.

- Commitment to lifelong learning and staying current with advancements in nursing practice and patient care.
