Mastercard is an American payments technology company whose origins date to 1966, when a group of banks formed the Interbank Card Association to compete with BankAmericard. Like its main rival it does not issue cards or extend credit; it operates the network that authorises, clears and settles transactions between issuing banks, acquirers and merchants in more than two hundred countries. Headquartered in Purchase, New York, the company has built a large services business alongside the core network, covering fraud and identity products through its Ethoca and RiskRecon acquisitions, open banking, consulting and loyalty programmes.

Our Purpose

Mastercard powers economies and empowers people in 200+ countries and territories worldwide. Together with our customers, we’re helping build a sustainable economy where everyone can prosper. We support a wide range of digital payments choices, making transactions secure, simple, smart and accessible. Our technology and innovation, partnerships and networks combine to deliver a unique set of products and services that help people, businesses and governments realize their greatest potential.

Title and Summary

Mastercard is developing the standards that will define trust in the next generation of digital commerce. As blockchain and digital assets evolve, industry-wide standards are critical to ensuring security, interoperability, and scalable adoption across ecosystems.

The Industry Standards team is responsible for shaping, driving, and operationalizing global standards that underpin Mastercard’s role in secure digital transactions. This includes active leadership in emerging blockchain and digital asset standards bodies, ensuring Mastercard influences the baseline frameworks that the ecosystem adopts.

  • Partner across internal teams (Security Solutions, Blockchain & Digital Assets, Legal, Product) to align standards strategy to business priorities
  • Help define approaches for security assurance, independent assessment, conformance validation, and trust signaling for blockchain ecosystems.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry peers, regulators, and ecosystem partners shaping blockchain standards
  • Support thought leadership and market engagement to drive awareness and adoption of standards (e.g., industry forums, publications, webinars)

Experiences

  • Expertise in cybersecurity, payments, or digital asset ecosystems, with strong understanding of blockchain technologies and risk models
  • Ability to translate complex technical standards into practical, business-aligned outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in emerging, ambiguous domains and shape strategic direction
  • Comfortable navigating both technical and policy discussions across global forums
  • Familiarity with blockchain security disciplines such as key management, smart contract security, node operations, custody, digital asset infrastructure, or related domains.
  • Experience participating in standards development organizations, industry consortia, regulatory initiatives, or technical working groups.

• Working knowledge of security and control frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI, cryptographic assurance programs, or equivalent.
