This is a founding leadership opportunity to develop a geotechnical design capability across Rail, Defence, Highways, Airports, Ports and Buildings, while contributing to technical delivery, client relationships, team development and business growth.\nKey Responsibilities:\nLead and contribute to geotechnical and ground engineering design across relevant infrastructure sectors\nProvide technical authority on slope stability, earthworks, foundation design, retaining structures and ground improvement\nReview and approve geotechnical interpretive reports, factual reports and design deliverables\nDevelop internal geotechnical design standards, processes and templates in line with quality and delivery requirements\nMaintain knowledge of Eurocodes, UK geotechnical standards and sector-specific requirements, including Network Rail and National Highways standards\nManage subcontractors delivering site investigations, including scope preparation, procurement, supervision and quality control\nInterpret borehole logs, trial pit logs, laboratory test results and in-situ testing data\nBuild client relationships, support tenders and bids, identify new opportunities and contribute to business development activity\nDevelop and mentor geotechnical engineers while collaborating with civils, M&E, structures and survey teams\nManage project budgets, fee recovery, subcontractor costs, resourcing plans and commercial reporting\nJob Requirements:\nDegree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related geotechnical discipline\nChartered Engineer status with ICE, the Geological Society or an equivalent professional institution, or active progress towards chartership\nSignificant experience in geotechnical consultancy and UK infrastructure projects\nStrong geotechnical design experience covering areas such as slope stability, earthworks, foundations, retaining structures and ground improvement\nExperience across at least two infrastructure sectors, with rail experience including Network Rail standards, legacy Railtrack standards or GRIP considered advantageous\nExperience managing subcontractors and ground investigation programmes, including specification, procurement and quality assurance\nClient-facing experience with involvement in business development, account management, tenders or PQQ submissions\nCommercial awareness, strong communication skills and the confidence to provide technical leadership\nAbility to work collaboratively while operating independently and taking ownership of delivery\nFull UK driving licence\nBenefits:\nAssociate-level seniority with genuine influence over technical strategy and service development\nOpportunity to establish and grow a geotechnical capability within an ambitious consultancy\nMulti-disciplinary working alongside civils, M&E, structures and survey professionals\nDirect access to senior leadership and involvement in wider business growth plans\nSupport for professional development, team building and career progression\nCollaborative culture focused on accountability, innovation, delivery and continuous improvement\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware geotechnical professional to shape a growing service line and make a lasting impact across the rail and wider infrastructure sectors.
