Senior Electrical Commissioning Manager

About the Business We are a leading, award-winning building services engineering firm with over four decades of industry expertise. Providing complete mechanical and electrical solutions, we deliver large-scale, high-value projects across Europe, the UK, and Ireland. Our portfolio spans a broad range of sectors, including data centres, healthcare, logistics, industrial, energy, and commercial developments. From initial concept and design through to final installation and ongoing maintenance, our highly skilled team is committed to technical excellence, safety, and reliability.

Role Summary We are seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Manager to oversee the complete commissioning lifecycle for complex electrical building services. In this role, you will lead systems integration, manage testing programmes from pre-commissioning through to client handover, and ensure all installations satisfy rigorous international standards and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the commissioning of complex electrical infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration with associated mechanical, controls, and wider facility systems.
  • Formulate and execute project-specific commissioning plans, testing schedules, and operational procedures.
  • Drive all phases of testing-from preliminary checks and energisation to Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and final project sign-off.
  • Coordinate daily commissioning activities alongside internal engineering, quality, safety, and design teams, as well as external subcontractors and specialist vendors.
  • Track milestone progress to ensure project schedules are met without compromising technical quality.

Electrical Systems Oversight

  • Supervise the testing and validation of key electrical assets, including:
    • High, Medium, and Low Voltage (HV/MV/LV) distribution systems
    • Switchgear, transformers, and protection schemes
    • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and standby generators
    • Lighting, small power, earthing, and lightning protection
    • BMS, EPMS, and associated electrical control systems
  • Review, draft, and approve detailed test scripts, switching schedules, method statements, and technical procedures.

Quality, Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all works align with relevant standards (IEC/EN), European directives, local building regulations, and client specifications.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, technical certifications, and audit-ready turnover packages.
  • Lead safety evaluations, system walkdowns, risk assessments (RAMS), and high-risk energisation reviews.
  • Foster a robust workplace safety culture across all commissioning activities.

Stakeholder Management & Handover

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for client teams, design consultants, regulatory bodies, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Direct witness testing, inspections, defect management (snagging), and system close-outs.
  • Manage final client handover, including operational readiness reviews, system training, and post-project debriefs.

Candidate Profile

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification backed by substantial trade experience.
  • Technical Depth: In-depth knowledge of complex electrical systems (HV/MV/LV, UPS, generators, BMS, protection systems) with a strong capability in fault-finding and system diagnostics.
  • Commissioning Expertise: Proven track record leading electrical commissioning through pre-commissioning, energisation, IST, and formal close-out.
  • Leadership & Delivery: Demonstrated ability to direct multidisciplinary teams, manage vendors, and coordinate complex schedules on time and within budget.
  • Compliance & Standards: Solid working knowledge of health and safety standards, risk management, and international engineering regulations.
  • Communication: Outstanding technical writing and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting clear progress updates to executive stakeholders.
  • Tools: Proficiency in standard office software and specialized digital commissioning platforms.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience on mission-critical or data centre developments.
  • Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or Authorised Person (AP) certification.
  • Direct experience planning complex energisation sequences and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Professional membership or chartership with a recognized body (e.g., IET, CIBSE).

What We Offer

  • Highly competitive salary and performance-aligned package
  • Ongoing professional development and formal training support
  • Comprehensive Health and Wellbeing programmes
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
