day-rate contract, there is a genuine intention to transition the successful candidate into a permanent Tech Lead position as the engineering function expands.\nThe Role\nAs Front End Lead, you will take ownership of the front-end architecture and delivery of a new React/TypeScript application, working closely with Product, Platform and Data teams.\nThis is a highly technical leadership position where you will:\nLead development of a greenfield React/TypeScript front end.\nRemain hands-on in the codebase on a daily basis.\nLine manage and mentor a small front-end engineering team.\nDefine and implement engineering best practices.\nDrive AI-assisted software development across the team.\nEstablish scalable delivery processes, CI/CD pipelines and quality standards.\nCollaborate with architects and back-end teams to ensure contract-first API integration.\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical Leadership\nLead the design, architecture and delivery of a modern React/TypeScript application.\nAct as the technical pace-setter for the front-end team through hands-on coding and code reviews.\nOwn front-end API contracts and work closely with back-end engineers to maintain contract-first delivery.\nBuild and maintain a scalable component library, design system and application framework.\nEstablish engineering standards covering code quality, testing, accessibility, security and performance.\nAI-Driven Engineering\nDefine and champion AI-assisted development practices.\nEvaluate and implement tooling for:Code generation\nAgentic development workflows\nAutomated testing\nCode review support\n\nEstablish governance and guardrails around AI usage.\nMeasure and demonstrate improvements in engineering productivity and delivery outcomes.\nDelivery & Team Management\nLead a co-located mobilisation period before transitioning to a hybrid working environment.\nMentor, coach and line manage front-end engineers.\nDrive continuous improvement through pairing, reviews and knowledge sharing.\nEstablish clear ways of working, delivery metrics and quality measures.\nWork closely with Product and Architecture teams to deliver against the product roadmap.\nSecurity & Governance\nEnsure security remains a core part of the development lifecycle.\nSupport implementation of secure authentication and authorisation using Microsoft Entra ID / MSAL.\nContribute to customer security assurance activities and secure coding practices.\nMaintain eligibility for work within security-conscious environments.\nEssential Experience\n8+ years' experience in software engineering.\nStrong commercial experience with:TypeScript\nReact\nModern front-end architecture and tooling\n\nProven experience leading small engineering teams while remaining hands-on.\nExperience delivering SaaS products and greenfield applications.\nStrong API-first / contract-first development experience.\nDeep understanding of:Automated testing strategies\nCI/CD pipelines\nCode quality tooling\nEngineering governance\n\nDemonstrable experience implementing AI-assisted software development practices within production environments.\nEligibility for UK Security Check (SC) clearance.\nDesirable Experience\nMicrosoft Azure.\nMicrosoft Entra ID / MSAL authentication.\nData-rich dashboard and analytics products.\nStorybook and design system development.\nMantine UI framework.\nDefence, regulated industries, logistics or supply chain environments.\nCurrent SC clearance.\nExperience introducing emerging AI development tooling and agentic workflows.\nPrevious contract roles that have transitioned into permanent leadership positions.\nWorking Arrangements\nInitially based on-site in Bristol for a collaborative mobilisation period.\nHybrid working model thereafter.\n40-hour working week with flexibility based on project and business requirements.\nInitial contract engagement of approximately three months with a clear route to a permanent leadership
