likely to extend\nRate: £73.40ph UMB (Inside IR35)\nNote, active SC required.\nRole details:\nOur defence client is looking for an Senior IT Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, operation, support, and continuous improvement of enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, and hosting services.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDesign, deploy, and support enterprise infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments.\nAdminister and optimise Microsoft Azure services and cloud-native infrastructure.\nManage and maintain Windows Server and Linux-based environments.\nDeploy, configure, and support Kubernetes and OpenShift container platforms.\nImplement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation solutions to improve platform management.\nEnsure infrastructure security, compliance, resilience, and availability requirements are met.\nMonitor system performance, capacity, and operational health across all managed environments.\nSupport backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities.\nCollaborate with security teams to implement secure-by-design infrastructure solutions.\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex incidents, problems, and technical issues.\nMaintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.\nMentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across technical teams.\nSupport infrastructure transformation, cloud migration, and technology refresh activities.\nJob Requirements:\nExperience in infrastructure, systems, cloud, or platform engineering roles, preferably in enterprise-scale environments.\nDemonstrable expertise in Microsoft Azure infrastructure and services.\nStrong knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating systems.\nExperience managing enterprise virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.\nStrong understanding of networking technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, load balancing, firewalls, and routing.\nHands-on experience administering Kubernetes clusters and supporting Red Hat OpenShift environments.\nExperience with Infrastructure as Code tools including Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, or Ansible.\nProficiency in monitoring, logging, and observability platforms.\nStrong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies.\nExperience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.\nStrong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills.\nDesirable Qualifications:\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert\nCertified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)\nRed Hat OpenShift Administration certification\nVMware VCP certification\nITIL Foundation or equivalent service management certification\nExperience supporting classified or secure environments\nKnowledge of Zero Trust Architecture principles\nIf you have the necessary skills and experience in IT systems engineering, particularly within the defence and security sector, we would love to hear from you.
