They are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract role to lead the development of innovative mechanical systems from clean-sheet concepts through to production.\nKey Responsibilities:\nLead clean-sheet mechanical design and development for rotating electrical machines, transmissions and drivetrains, with potential involvement in pumps, fans, power electronics and battery systems\nManage concept development, prototyping, validation and the delivery of production-ready products\nCarry out mechanical analysis using hand calculations and CAE tools, considering component failure modes and material strengths\nProduce detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for components and assemblies\nBuild and test prototype hardware and test rigs as required\nUse simulation software to optimise designs and analyse product behaviour\nWork collaboratively with manufacturing, test, supply chain and external suppliers\nSupport quality and regulatory compliance while mentoring junior engineers\nJob Requirements:\nStrong experience in mechanical engineering and mechanical design\nProficiency in 3D CAD modelling and 2D engineering drawing\nExperience with analytical methods and CAE tools such as ANSYS or MATLAB\nPractical knowledge of Design for Manufacture, Design for Assembly, DFMEA and PFMEA\nExperience working with and managing external suppliers\nStrong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, component performance and failure analysis\nAbility to lead projects independently or contribute as a senior member of a multidisciplinary team\nDegree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, although relevant experience may also be considered\nDesirable Experience:\nExperience with Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks\nWorking knowledge of MASTA or KISSsoft software\nExperience in high-volume manufacturing, including gravity or high-pressure casting part design\nDesign experience
