Join us!\nJOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: The Lab Analyst II performs sample preparation, performs analytical and/or assay testing, and manages data in support of Materion's requirements for customers and the AS9100D Quality Management System. The Lab Analyst II reports to the Senior Analytical Chemist or Analytical Lab Manager as appropriate, with dotted line responsibility to the department lead.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.\n Work with the department lead to receive training, use the QMS software to access and acknowledge training documents and work instructions. Provide training to other lab personnel as required. \nComply with all procedures and good laboratory practices. Provide input for improvement of standard procedures regarding sample preparation and instrumental analysis. \nFollow standard procedures regarding sample preparation prior to instrumental analysis; this entails using rolling and cutting equipment, very accurate weighing of samples, hot plate or microwave acid digestion of samples, and accurate dilutions among other common laboratory procedures; attention to detail is a key requirement. \nPerform testing and data recording for provided samples using the following techniques (not necessarily a complete listing): Inductively Coupled Plasma - Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES)\nGlow Discharge Mass Spectrometery (GDMS)\nInstrumental Gas Analysis (IGA)\nTap Density, Screen Sieve Analysis, Average Particle Diameter\nTitration\nMetallography: Grain Size, % Recrystallization, Hardness\nTensile Testing\n\nMaintain open and active communication with managers regarding workflow, issues, and opportunities for improvement.\nPerform basic cleaning and maintenance of equipment.\nProvide training and guidance to other lab personnel on analytical methods and practices.\nAble to maintain a safe, clean work environment, including the handling and movement of bulk acids.\nProficient in the use of Excel functions, SAP and other standard office software.\nQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:\nPrefer two- or four-year degree (preferably in a STEM field). \nHigh school diploma, technical school, or GED required at a minimum, coupled with 5 or more years of relevant analytical laboratory experience. \nTECHNICAL SKILLS: The individual must be able to perform the following:\n· Basic to Intermediate mathematical calculations\n· Interpretation of customer specifications\n· Understand ASTM standards with guidance\n· Follow directions to fulfill requirements for AS9100D\nLANGUAGE SKILLS: As this role requires effective communication with other employees and the comprehension of customer specifications and other technical documents, the individual must be very proficient in speaking and writing the English language.\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
