Everything you need to know is below.\nThe role\nYou will be our first Founding QA Engineer in Toronto, and you will own quality for a product that prepares accounting work for enterprise customers, where a missed edge case shows up in someone's books. Maxima's agents prepare journal entries, match transactions, and reconcile accounts, and controllers approve what they produce, so the product has to be right in the ordinary cases and in the strange ones: the many-to-many match, the multi-entity close, the reconciliation that does not tie out.\nThe first job is coverage: growing the end-to-end suite in Playwright, using AI to generate tests, keeping the existing suite healthy, and testing edge cases by hand. Once that is in a good state, you will also fix bugs and build features alongside the rest of the team, and you will shape how the Toronto engineering team thinks about quality from the start.\nOur team is tight-knit, and we look for people who take initiative and feel a strong sense of ownership.\nWhat you'll do\nIncrease end-to-end test coverage with Playwright, using AI to generate tests\n\nMaintain the existing test suite and keep it fast and trustworthy\n\nTest edge cases manually, especially the accounting scenarios automated tests miss\n\nReproduce, triage, and document bugs so engineers can fix them quickly\n\nWire tests into CI so a build fails when something breaks\n\nFix bugs and implement new features once coverage is in a reasonable state\n\nWhat we're looking for\nKnowledge of TypeScript, React, and Playwright\n\nExperience building or maintaining end-to-end test suites for a web application\n\nAn eye for edge cases and the patience to test them by hand\n\nComfort using AI tools to write and maintain tests\n\nCare about correctness; you notice when a number is off\n\nInitiative and a strong sense of ownership\n\nNice to have\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions\n\nExperience testing financial, accounting, or other data-heavy products\n\nExperience contributing product code alongside test code\n\nWhere and how you'll work\nThis role is based in our downtown Toronto office, near Union Station.
