We seek candidates with extensive construction experience on transportation projects, functional leadership of project or task teams, and evidence of progressive career development.\nWhat You'll Do:\nAs a Transportation Construction Manager, you will provide high-quality technical work products to the client, including on-site representation, documentation, cost control, and time management. You will manage the technical effort for the client, lead the project team, and coordinate work with various project entities to meet deadlines and budgets. You will also serve as the overall liaison between the Owner and General Contractors on specialized, multi-disciplined construction projects and contribute to business development, including leadership in short-list presentation efforts.\nResponsibilities\nResponsibilities include:\nCoordinate and track multiple project activities on multiple projects concurrently and determine staffing requirements to verify adequate coverage\nPerform job site construction inspection on specialized, multi-disciplined construction projects\nPlan, organize, coordinate, direct, and manage multi-disciplinary work efforts\nOversee validation of products and materials ordered for projects to verify their conformance to specifications\nMonitor and assess construction performance and record construction activities to verify compliance with construction documentation requirements\nInspect work in progress to verify that methods, materials, and equipment conform to approved standards\nMaintain project documentation through review of Construction Inspectors' daily status reports; chart progress of contract schedules via regularly scheduled meetings; review and facilitate utilization of shop drawing submittals; process and facilitate incorporation of RFIs; review contractor change orders and make recommendations for changes; incorporate change orders into project record\nFacilitate regularly scheduled construction meetings\nReview the punch list submitted by others and verify that items have been completed and corrected prior to recommending substantial completion to the Owner\nMaintain a perspective overview regarding federal, state, and local laws regulating construction procedures, safety practices, and working conditions\nWork closely with the Director of Safety to facilitate the highest level of safety in and around the work site\nInvestigate complaints from landowners arising out of conflicts between construction and right-of-way agreements\nProvide customer service and good etiquette to the traveling public, adjacent property owners, and other project stakeholders\nPerform various administrative duties, including daily timesheet, monthly expense report, and monthly mileage report\nMaintain certifications and recertifications\nActively participate in company activities, including Area and company meetings\nWho We Are Looking For\nExperience:\nExtensive construction experience on transportation projects\nFunctional leadership of project or task teams for a construction manager, contractor, owner, or designer\nEvidence of progressive career development\nProven track record managing roadways, bridges, and/or transportation construction projects\nQualifications\nEducation/Knowledge:\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or higher is strongly preferred\nConstruction practices, principles of construction management, and project controls, with working knowledge in scheduling, cost estimating, documentation, contract administration, and construction techniques\nPersonnel and project management techniques, including budgeting, leadership, training, and business development\nHighway construction methods, materials, equipment, and procedures\nRoad and bridge specifications and standards\nManual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)\nEnvironmental and safety regulations\nFederal, state, and local transportation policies and regulations\nPreferred Certifications:\nOSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification required, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire\nCertified Construction Manager (CCM) designation required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire or promotion\nVDOT certifications preferred, such as Intermediate Work Zone Protection, Asphalt Field Level I and II, Soils and Aggregate, Pavement Marking, Nuclear Gauge Safety, Guard Rail Inspector Training, ACI Concrete, and DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management\nSkills and Abilities:\nGeneral knowledge of MBP's diverse services with demonstrated expertise in one or more service areas or market sectors\nLeadership and training capabilities for team members and project teams\nDirect client contact and client care proficiency\nClear and professional communication with contractors, owners, and subconsultants regarding work assignments\nStand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions\nSafely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain\nMaintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record\nGuidance/Responsibility:\nWorks independently and determines solutions with limited guidance\nProvides training and leadership to Construction Inspectors and other team members\nReceives overall guidance on emphasis and approach from Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and/or Group Management\nSupervisory:\nGenerally performs in a supervisory role, leading project teams\nSelf-performs technical tasks alongside supervisory duties\nPersonnel management including performance reviews, coaching, disciplinary issues, review and approval of timesheets, requests for time off, and review and approval of mileage and expense reports\nAssists in training and provides technical expertise and guidance to Construction Inspectors\nWhat We Offer\nWe're focused on providing the tools and support you need to succeed, both personally and professionally.
