Duties and responsibilities are outlined below:\nReports to:\nThe Assistant Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer on duty for routine matters and ultimately accountable to the Captain of the vessel\n\nSupervises:\nOilers/ Wipers in the Engine Department\nDescription of Duties:\nEssential Duties:\nMaintain the cleanliness and sanitary condition of the engine room.\nLubricate, clean, and paint machinery spaces such as steering space, boiler room, generator room, bow thruster engine room, and engine.\nSupport the engineer on duty with daily maintenance of main and auxiliary machinery.\nAssist in overhauling engines and their components.\nAssist with safety and security duties as assigned.\nInstruct the oilers/ wipers on the proper use of Sinex. \nCoordinates proper inventory of vessels' engineering supplies.\nOther duties as may be assigned by the Captain or Engineer.\n\nMinimum Requirements:\nCurrent U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential\n\nThird Assistant Engineer License\n\nValid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent.\n\nPass pre-employment drug test and physical.\n\nPhysical Requirements:\nThe unpredictable, ever-changing and inherently dangerous nature of vessel operations require the Oiler to be physically qualified to ensure his/her own safety, as well as that of the vessel and crew.Specific physical requirements include:\nAdequate vision (i.e., absent any color blindness or impairment that cannot be corrected with prescription lenses).\n\nAdequate hearing.\n\nCapable of walking and standing on wet surfaces for extended periods of time.\n\nAble to handle heavy lines and operate heavy machinery.\n\nAbility to climb a 12-foot ladder without assistance.\n\nAbility to hoist oneself up and over a 12-inch wide, 6-foot-high barrier.\n\nSufficient strength to:\nLift 100 lbs. from deck to waist level;\n\nLift 50 lbs. from deck to shoulder level;\n\nLift 35 lbs. from deck to overhead; and\n\nPull (drag) 120 lbs. at least 20 feet.\n\nSalary: $596.89\nFLSA Status:\nExempt\n\n*This position description does not promise or imply that the functions listed are the only duties to be performed or that the position may not change or be eliminated.
