The incumbent will lead a variety of interesting and challenging regional survey projects. The successful individual will manage a variety of Crown Land surveys, road and utility infrastructure surveys, topographic surveys, and construction and engineering layout. This intermediate level role is ideal for a self-driven, superior communicator who enjoys the challenge and satisfaction derived from being part of an established multidisciplinary team.\nMcElhanney’s culture of teamwork, mentorship and career growth make this position ideal for the successful candidate to both mentor junior staff, and to be mentored by senior management and surveying specialists within our organization.\nWhat You’ll Do\nWorking in a team setting to establish project scope, budget and schedule, and other project or client expectations.\nLeading survey crews on projects; communicating scope and scheduling information to crew members.\nManaging project budgets and financial reporting.\nManaging various survey project types including legal, energy focused surveys, occasional land development (subdivisions) and infrastructure, topographic, engineering and construction layout.\nLiaising with both internal (McElhanney) and external Project Managers and clients.\nManage information flow from field to final deliverables.\nProviding mentorship, guidance, and training to assist with subordinate’s professional development.\nEnsuring quality assurance procedures are carried out for proposals, field returns, drawings, legal plans, documents, and other deliverables.\nProviding advice to clients on property and legal survey matters.\nOther duties as required.\nWhat You’ll Bring\nIdeally candidates will possess a current Alberta Land Surveyor (ALS) Commission and be in current good standing with ALSA, or an equivalent Canadian provincial land surveying commission with the ability to quickly obtain an ALS commission.\nRegistered articling students who are close to obtaining their ALS commission will be considered.\n5 years’ experience post-commission is preferred; 10 years total experience in surveying, ideally in energy type projects.\nDemonstrated experience in Project Management and Business Development, and the ability to deliver projects on time and budget.\nAbility to lead, develop, and motivate a team of survey staff and work well in a team environment; prior supervisory or management experience is a definite asset.\nExcellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.\nProficiency in computer applications (Microsurvey and Trimble Business Center at minimum).\nPeriods of travel may be required for the role.\nValid Class 5 driver’s license.\nWhat Can We Offer You?\nThe salary range for this position is $85,000 - $130,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
