You'll have the opportunity to:\nShape the direction of the structural practice in Northern BC\nMentor and develop emerging professionals\nInfluence key business decisions and growth strategies\nBuild long-term client relationships and trusted partnerships\nHelp identify and pursue new opportunities across the region\nWhat You’ll Do\nAs a Senior Structural Engineer, you will take a lead role in delivering structural projects from concept through design and construction.\nYour responsibilities will include:\nStructural Design: Lead and deliver structural engineering projects across industrial, infrastructure, municipal, commercial and residential sectors.\nTechnical Leadership: Prepare and review structural analysis, calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.\nField & Construction Support: Complete field verifications, structural condition assessments, inspections and provide engineering support during construction.\nProject Delivery: Help manage project scope, schedules, budgets and quality while working closely with clients and project teams.\nMultidisciplinary Collaboration: Work with civil, geotechnical, survey, materials testing and environmental teams to deliver integrated solutions.\nMentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers and technical staff.\nClient & Business Development: Develop strong client relationships and contribute to proposals, pursuits and opportunities to grow our structural practice in Northern BC.\nInnovation: Apply practical, constructible and innovative engineering solutions to challenging project environments.\nThe Ideal Candidate\nWe're looking for an experienced engineer who combines technical excellence with leadership capability.\nYou'll be someone who:\nEnjoys solving complex structural challenges\nBuilds strong client relationships\nTakes pride in developing people and teams\nUnderstands the realities of project delivery and construction\nBrings a practical, solutions-focused approach\nWants to contribute to the long-term growth of a successful engineering practice\nYou’ll have the opportunity to work on complex northern projects, including specialized structures requiring innovative design, challenging-site solutions and hands-on construction support.\nWhat You’ll Bring\nDegree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.\nP.Eng. registration in BC, or eligibility for registration.\nMinimum of 12+ years of structural engineering experience, with responsibility for project delivery, technical design, review and leadership.\nStrong knowledge of Canadian structural codes, standards and engineering practices.\nStrong experience in structural steel, concrete, foundations, connection design and structural analysis.\nExperience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.\nExperience providing construction technical support, field engineering, inspections and constructability reviews is an asset.\nExperience with industrial, mining, energy, infrastructure or other resource-sector projects, including complex or remote-site environments, is an asset.\nStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.\nExperience with project management, client relationships, business development and mentoring is an asset.\nProficiency with structural design and analysis software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, S-Frame, ETABS, RISA or equivalent, as well as AutoCAD and Bluebeam.\nValid Class 5 driver's licence.\nLive, Work and Play in Terrace\nImagine building your career while enjoying some of the best outdoor recreation in Canada. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
