They guide students in navigating the McGill student experience through orientation and transition programming and by providing student life opportunities across campus for students to develop their interests and skills.\nPosition Summary:\nUnder the supervision of the Associate Director, New Student Experience or her designate, the French Programming Program Assistant coordinates peer-led French Language learning opportunities activities during the fall and winter semesters, allowing students to practice their French while building connections on-campus and in Montreal. This will include planning and carrying out different activities including cultural visits, French-language volunteer placements, seasonal and community events and French Lunch conversation Events while promoting social connection and a sense of community.\nMAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nDuties include, but are not limited to, the following:\nDevelop and plan French language programming in collaboration with the team, scheduling events at opportune times and liaising with on- and off-campus partners in the planning process.\nReach out to community organizations to organize activities during which students will be able to practice their French conversational skills.\nAct as a facilitator during events, encouraging and prompting students as needed to promote active participation and French language learning, and guiding them where necessary.\nTrack participation. Reach out to other partners to collaborate on promotion and sharing best (better) practices.\nCollaborate with CL&E’s Communications team on the promotion of French-language events, determining effective channels of promotion and collaborative promotional opportunities with partners, including McGill LearnFrench website.\nLiaise with students and university organizations for outreach, information exchange and collaboration; diplomatic communications and relationship-building.\nTrack results and prepare a final activity report, detailing number of participants and number of students hours implemented during the period.\nPerform other duties and tasks, as required.\nEMPLOYMENT LEARNING OUTCOMES\nAs a Program Assistant, you will have the opportunity to learn and/or develop skills in the following areas:\nProgram Development\nStudent support\nAdult Education/Learning Principles\nPeer Programs & Peer Support\nStudent Affairs/Student Life\nEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE\nCurrently registered as a full-time student in any degree program at McGill University\nExcellent French, spoken and written, with knowledge of grammatical terms and ability to provide some linguistic explanations\nGroup facilitation experience, preferred\nBackground in education, tutoring, or pedagogy, an asset.\nWork Study qualified, an asset\nLeadership experience, an asset\nKnowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
