The role owns execution across Program Increment (PI) delivery, Workday enhancements, AMS oversight, production support, resource capacity and allocation, continuous improvement, and small-to-medium Workday projects.\nAs the primary technology delivery partner for Workday stakeholders, this leader is accountable not only for individual deliverables but also for making sure the right resources and skills are applied to the highest-priority work at the right time. The role combines solution ownership, delivery leadership, service management, and resource management, and remains accountable for outcomes whether work is performed by internal resources or strategic delivery partners.\nThis is an individual-contributor role with no direct reports. The Workday Solutions Delivery Manager leads through influence, clear plans, transparent reporting, and agreed accountability with internal teams, HCM Solution Managers, and delivery partners.\nKey Responsibilities\nPI Planning & Delivery\nOwn execution of Workday PI commitments within the assigned solution portfolio.\nTranslate approved business priorities into executable delivery plans and resource requirements.\nMaintain the Workday delivery backlog so work is refined, estimated, prioritized, and sequenced.\nEstablish achievable PI commitments based on priority, technical dependencies, and available capacity and capability; do not accept commitments without a realistic assessment of both.\nCoordinate functional, technical, integration, security, testing, and vendor resources required for delivery.\nMonitor execution against PI commitments and proactively address schedule, scope, dependency, capacity, or quality issues.\nProvide accurate delivery forecasts and regular reporting on committed versus completed scope, risks, trade-offs, and decisions required.\nResource Management, Capacity Planning & Allocation \nThis is a core accountability of the role, not an administrative responsibility. The role directs the allocation of Workday delivery capacity without direct people-management responsibility.\nOwn resource planning and allocation across Workday PI delivery, AMS, enhancements, technical debt, and small projects.\nMaintain an integrated view of Workday demand, available capacity, required skills, committed resources, utilization, and upcoming demand.\nAllocate internal and partner resources based on business priorities, delivery commitments, operational risk, and required technical and functional skills, in coordination with resource owners.\nBalance capacity between planned PI delivery and BAU and production-support requirements.\nIdentify capacity constraints, skill gaps, and resource conflicts before they affect delivery commitments; recommend prioritization, sequencing, scope adjustment, or incremental capacity when demand exceeds available resources.\nPartner with vendors so appropriate functional and technical capabilities are assigned to Workday technical deliverable, and challenge vendor staffing that does not meet agreed skill, quality, or performance expectations.\nManage transitions, onboarding, knowledge transfer, and continuity for resources supporting the Workday service.\nReduce dependency on individual resources through documentation, cross-training, and succession coverage.\nProvide resource and capacity forecasts as inputs to HCM portfolio and financial planning, and keep assignments aligned with funded capacity and approved portfolio priorities.\nEscalate structural capacity or capability gaps with clear recommendations and business impact.\nWorkday AMS & Production Service Ownership\nOwn day-to-day oversight of Workday AMS within the assigned portfolio.\nEnsure incidents, service requests, defects, and problems are prioritized, assigned, and resolved effectively.\nManage ticket backlog, aging, SLA performance, recurring issues, and production risk.\nEnsure ServiceNow accurately reflects issue status, accountability, and resolution.\nRequire root-cause analysis for significant or recurring incidents, and track corrective actions that address underlying causes through completion.\nMonitor vendor resource performance, technical and functional quality, continuity, and knowledge coverage.\nHold AMS providers accountable for proactive support and continuous improvement.\nEscalate systemic vendor-performance concerns to the HCM Vendor Operations Lead.\nIdentify recurring failure patterns and lead systemic technical improvements.\nEnhancement & Small-to-Medium Project Delivery\nOwn Workday enhancements and small-to-medium projects that predominantly reside within the Workday domain.\nDevelop scope, estimates, resource plans, timelines, and delivery approaches.\nAssign and coordinate appropriate functional, integration, security, testing, and AMS resources.\nManage execution through testing, deployment, stabilization, and operational transition.\nMaintain accountability for the Workday components of larger cross-HCM programs led by Portfolio/Program Management.\nEnsure project work does not unintentionally compromise PI or critical AMS commitments.\nWorkday Solution Management\nMaintain strong knowledge of Workday functionality, configuration, integrations, security, and business-process dependencies within the assigned portfolio.\nDevelop strong relationships with HR and Payroll stakeholders and translate business priorities into sustainable Workday solutions.\nPartner with the HCM Architect on changes involving significant architectural decisions.\nMaximize standard Workday capabilities and reduce unnecessary customization.\nIdentify technical debt and include appropriate remediation in delivery planning.\nAssess Workday release impacts and coordinate adoption of relevant new capabilities.\nBalance immediate business requirements with long-term platform sustainability.\nProduction & Release Readiness\nEnsure Workday changes follow established development, configuration, testing, security, migration, change, and production-control requirements.\nConfirm appropriate technical and business testing has been completed and production-readiness criteria are met before deployment.\nValidate production support, monitoring, deployment, rollback, and stabilization plans.\nEngage the Technical Delivery Lead for complex, high-risk, or cross-platform releases.\nEnsure post-production stabilization actions are completed and transitioned into normal operations.\nFinancial & Vendor Stewardship\nProvide resource demand and capacity inputs into Workday forecasts and annual and ongoing capacity planning.\nMonitor vendor capacity against funded commitments and planned demand; identify inefficient use of vendor capacity and recommend adjustments.\nValidate that resource requests are backed by defined demand, outcomes, and appropriate skill requirements.\nPartner with Vendor Operations on systemic provider-performance issues, contractual service expectations, and resource-model improvements.\nStakeholder & Delivery Governance\nServe as the primary HCM Technology delivery partner for the assigned Workday portfolio.\nGive stakeholders clear visibility into commitments, capacity, delivery health, risks, and trade-offs.\nFacilitate fact-based prioritization when demand exceeds capacity.\nResolve issues at the appropriate level, escalating decisions rather than routine execution problems.\nCoordinate closely with other HCM Solution Managers where Workday work creates downstream dependencies.\nDecision Rights\nAlthough the role has no direct reports, the Workday Solutions Delivery Manager is empowered to:\nAllocate Workday delivery resources across approved priorities and commitments.\nManage Workday delivery sequencing within established business priorities, and recommend sequencing changes when demand exceeds capacity.\nDetermine whether sufficient capacity and capability exist before accepting delivery commitments.\nHold AMS and delivery partners accountable for performance and resource quality, and require replacement or remediation plans for vendor resources that consistently do not meet expectations.\nMake routine operational and delivery decisions without VP-level intervention.\nEscalate cross-platform technical risks to the Technical Delivery Lead and architecture decisions to the HCM Architect.\nEscalate material priority, funding, or business trade-offs with clear options and recommendations.\nBasic Requirements\n8+ years of progressive experience delivering Workday or comparable enterprise HCM solutions.\nBachelor's degree in Information Technology, Human Resources, Business, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.\nDemonstrated experience with Workday application delivery, enhancement management, AMS, and production support.\nProven experience managing resource capacity, allocation, and competing priorities across mixed internal and vendor delivery teams without direct reporting authority.\nExperience leading PI Planning and managing multiple concurrent PI commitments, enhancements, production demands, and projects.\nStrong working knowledge of Workday configuration, security, integrations, testing, and release management.\nStrong understanding of incident, problem, change, release, and service-management disciplines.\nDemonstrated ability to translate business demand into realistic resource and delivery plans.\nPreferred Skills/Experience\nWorkday certifications and/or deep hands-on experience in the relevant Workday functional or technical domain (strongly preferred).\nExperience managing global onshore/offshore delivery models and managed-service providers.\nExperience with Agile delivery practices and ServiceNow-based service management.\nFamiliarity with SOX/ITGC, privacy, and audit requirements affecting HR technologies.\nStrong vendor, stakeholder, and executive communication skills.\nAbility to make decisions, manage trade-offs, and hold delivery teams and partners accountable for outcomes through influence.\nMeasures of Success\nPI commitments delivered predictably with appropriate quality.\nResource capacity aligned to the highest-priority business outcomes.\nImproved accuracy of resource forecasts and delivery commitments.\nCapacity constraints and skill gaps identified before they affect delivery.\nReduced resource bottlenecks and dependence on individual SMEs.\nImproved Workday platform stability, with fewer recurring incidents and a reduced AMS backlog.\nImproved AMS resource capability, continuity, and accountability.\nSmall-to-medium initiatives delivered without unnecessary executive intervention.\nIncreased use of standard Workday capabilities and reduced avoidable technical debt.\nWe are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson as part of our Total Rewards.
