For more information, visit www.mda.space.\nRole overview:\nMDA is seeking a GNC System Engineer for design, integration, verification, and operational support of GNC subsystems for our current and next-generation remote sensing and communications satellites. The role will require to design the complete subsystem, from algorithm development through hardware implementation, verification, and on-orbit operation support. The role requires deep expertise in orbital dynamics, attitude-determination & control, plus real-time FSW definition and integration, and will work closely with subsystem and mission operations teams throughout the satellite life-cycle.\nTasks summary:\nArchitecture Concept & Requirements\nDerive GNC functional, performance, and safety requirements (pointing accuracy, slew rate, orbit-maintenance ΔV, fault-tolerance) from mission level requirements.\nProduce System Requirements, Interface Control document (ICD), and Description Document.\nPerform requirement management and maintain bidirectional traceability throughout the project lifecycle.\nModelling & Trade-Study\nConduct trade studies on sensor suites and actuator families.\nPerform high-fidelity dynamics simulations (Matlab/Simulink, STK) to meet pointing requirements, maintain error budgets, control-law stability, fuel consumption, and survivability margins.\nAlgorithm Development\nDesign and implement attitude-determination algorithms and orbit-determination solutions.\nDevelop control laws for 3-axis stabilization, slew maneuvers, station keeping algorithms\nValidate algorithms with Monte-Carlo analysis, worst-case scenarios, and support SIL/HIL testing on avionic test bench.\nCross-Functional Coordination, Stakeholder & Program Interaction\nTranslate algorithms into FSW requirements running on real-time operating systems.\nCollaborate with the C&DH and FSW teams to implement TM/TC, schedulers and FDIR logic for GNC.\nPresent technical status, risk analyses, and trade-study results to senior management.\nNegotiate and maintain ICDs with subsystems.\nSupport B&P (Phase 0 & pre-phase A).\nHardware Selection & Design\nSpecify sensor and actuator hardware, perform interface definition (electrical, mechanical, thermal) and conduct trade on redundancy architectures.\nWork with structures and thermal engineers to ensure proper mounting, thermal paths, and vibration survivability of GNC hardware aligning with payload requirements.\nReview harness routing and power distribution for GNC electronics.\nIntegration & Verification (IVV)\nAuthor Verification Plans, Test Matrices, and Validation Procedures for unit, subsystem, and spacecraft level GNC tests.\nLead functional tests: sensor calibration, actuator command-response, closed-loop attitude-control on testbeds, and on-orbit checkout sequences.\nConduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis (FTA), and reliability prediction.\nTechnical Leadership & Mentorship\nMentor, guide junior engineers and interns.\nAct as technical liaison with customers, partners and external vendors\nAct as Continuous Improvement stakeholder\nContribute to MDA’s knowledge-base, process enhancements, and standards.\nConfiguration, Documentation & Standards Management\nMaintain GNC standards (sensor/actuator interface, filter design, control-law documentation).\nEnsure all artefacts, analysis, software, deliverables and documentations are version controlled in PLM environment.\nSupport design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR/TRR…etc.).\nSupport Technology Road-Mapping & Innovation\nOn-Orbit & Operations Support\nSupport procedure developments (detumble, orbit-maintenance, safe-mode…etc.).\nProvide real-time GNC support during launch, early-orbit checkout, and contingency events.\nAnalyse on-orbit telemetry, update filter parameters, and generate performance reports.\nSupport SOOH development and associated operator training.\nRequired Qualifications:\nSc. in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace or Physics, (M.Sc. preferred), focused on flight dynamics, control theory, or navigation with 10+ of GNC/AOCS experience on LEO/MEO/GEO platforms.\nOrbital mechanics, attitude dynamics, and control-law design (classical and modern optimal control).\nProficiency with navigation sensors and actuators.\nExperience implementing real-time filtering and control algorithms in embedded code\nStrong understanding of aerospace system engineering fundamentals.\nHands-on individual who can support systems integration processes and capability to test systems and resolve problems.\nExperience with Confluence and JIRA.\nDemonstrated capability to efficiently work with little supervision.\nAbility to distill complex problems to fundamentals to solve with analysis, similarity, or creativity.\nDemonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills in English & French work environment.\nComments/Special Considerations:\nSuccessful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).\nWe’re a dream team of purpose-driven, collaborative and passionate people, and we are constantly looking for others to join #TeamMDA to ignite new and innovative approaches to problem-solving that push us forward to improve life on and above Earth.
