This legacy reflects a record of delivery where engineering rigour, operational reliability, and national trust are non-negotiable.\n49North Defence strengthens Canada’s sovereign defence capability by delivering integrated mission systems and multi-domain C4ISR integration, enabling trusted Canadian and coalition operations, assured interoperability, and sustained readiness.\nRole:\nWe’re on the hunt for a motivated and positive minded Sr. Systems Engineer with experience developing and integrating Electronic Warfare (EW) systems to join our cross functional, multi-disciplined team.\nAs a member of the Engineering team, you will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customer.\nJob description:\nThe Sr. Systems Engineer - Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems Engineer, will work as part of a dynamic systems engineering team that will mature the EW system design and support procurement of EW subsystems through all design phases, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Integration, Set-to-Work and final acceptance trials.\nExcellent internal and external communication and leadership skills are necessary to work closely within our distributed team, our customer and their technical teams, our suppliers, and other external stakeholders.\nThe successful candidate will have a blend of systems engineering discipline, EW systems knowledge and operational mission awareness, as well as understanding the customers’ needs and potential options. Experience or background of the maritime and/or naval domain would be an asset. The successful candidate will be an integral part of an engineering team, under the direction of the Program Engineer, EW IPT Lead, and Systems Engineering Lead.\nWe are looking for people to be based in either Richmond B.C., Ottawa, ON. or Halifax, N.S. facilities.\nThe systems engineering team is structured to be flexible and able to respond and evolve with the program needs. Responsibilities could include:\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary dispersed team\nDevelops relationships with customers, contractors and subcontractors\nSupport the EW supplier procurements through the subcontracts manager\nProduces and/or reviews technical documents, specifications and standards, including System Requirements, Interface and Design Documents\nDomestic and/or international travel to support program needs\nSupports the project team addressing design & integration issues\nActively participate in program and test reviews\nPerforms the following engineering functions for highly complex systems:Supports the development and allocation of system level requirements\nReviews, develops and documents system level operational concepts and mission statements\nSupports the development and generation of documents such as, design reports, technical deliverables.Our team supports the full scope of system engineering lifecycle aspects including compatibility and interoperability, human factors, cyber-security, modelling and simulation, ILS, and verification and testing\n\nModels and simulates system performance and RF interference / integration into mission platform and other platform sensors\nSupports system/product integration\nVerifies and validates system designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements\n\nRequirements:\nExperience working in a well-structured systems engineering teams\nExperience in large Electronic Systems Development or Integration projects, preferably with Electronic Warfare Systems, and a strong understanding of project execution processes from requirements through commissioning and support\nExperience maintaining close working relationships with other system engineers and customer representatives in a location distributed environment\nMust have excellent verbal and written communications and customer interaction skills\nDemonstrate strong problem-solving skills\nEnthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills, and takes pride and ownership of work\nPreferred experience and skills:\nExperience with the design and development of Electronic Warfare systems, including environment qualification, human factors, and maritime certifications\nKnowledge of advanced antenna technologies and performance\nAbility to model antenna performance for received and transmitted signals\nAbility to analyze and model atmospheric propagation of RF signals\nUnderstanding of antenna patterns, polarization, bandwidth, beamwidth etc.\nUnderstanding of the RF Chain, including signal to noise ratio\nUnderstanding of Radar and Missile System employment and capabilities\nUnderstanding of Radar and Laser Warning Receivers and SIGINT sensors and countermeasure systems and signal processing techniques\nHighly proficient with MS Office applications (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PPT, Visio)\nExperience working with engineering tools such as DOORS, Confluence/Jira and CAMEO\nKnowledge of agile and/or iterative development methods\nAbility to work with and uphold classified information\nWe’re a dream team of purpose-driven, collaborative and passionate people, and we are constantly looking for others to join 49North to ignite new and innovative approaches to problem-solving that push us forward.\nComments/Special Considerations:\nSuccessful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the secret level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.\nBenefits statement:\n49North provides competitive compensation and benefits packages for its employees at all locations.
