Development Engineer (Product)

About the Role

Minimum Requirements

• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (NQF Level 6).
• 5 years’ engineering experience within a manufacturing environment, including 3 years at supervisory level.
• Proficiency in MS Office and advanced Autodesk Inventor design skills.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (NQF Level 7). (Advantageous)

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings.
• Knowledge of Autodesk Vault.
• Experience in project scoping and costing.
• Knowledge of jig and fixture design.
• Basic mechanical hands-on skills, including grinding, machining and welding.
• Understanding of product development, design validation and engineering improvement processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, plan, design, develop and validate products, systems and mechanical components according to manufacturing requirements.
• Analyse customer specifications and translate requirements into clear product performance criteria.
• Ensure products meet technical specifications, industry standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Conduct research, benchmarking and feasibility studies to identify new technologies and improvement opportunities.
• Drive engineering projects from design and planning through to implementation.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives and cost-saving opportunities.
• Monitor project progress, budgets, timelines and associated risks.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, safety requirements and relevant legislation.
• Assist with budget preparation, expenditure monitoring and cost control.
• Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify and resolve technical problems efficiently while supporting operational targets and product quality.
