From the first design concept through prototyping, testing, refinement and commercialization, you’ll help bring innovative ideas to life.\nThis is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys creative problem-solving,\nhands-on product development and seeing their designs move from the drawing board into production.\nWhile medical device experience is a plus, we also welcome engineers with strong mechanical design and product development experience in other regulated or technically complex industries, including automotive and aerospace.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign & Product Development\nDesign, develop and improve mechanical components and assemblies for medical devices, with a focus on product enhancements and innovation.\nGenerate new design concepts through brainstorming, technical research and competitive product analysis.\nDevelop prototypes and working models, evaluate design alternatives and refine concepts through multiple iterations.\nCreate detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical specifications.\nApply GD&T to support accurate, manufacturable designs.\nEvaluate materials, manufacturing processes and design alternatives while balancing performance, quality, cost and development timelines.\nDesign and support plastic components and work with manufacturing teams and suppliers to develop effective solutions.\nFrom Prototype to Production\nSupport prototype testing and design verification and validation activities.\nPrepare and maintain engineering documentation in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.\nWork within a structured Stage-Gate product development process, participating in design reviews and project approvals.\nCollaborate with Quality, Regulatory and Operations teams on requirements including sterilization and biocompatibility.\nHelp transition successful designs into manufacturing and commercialization.\nCollaborate & Solve\nYou’ll work alongside a diverse group of engineering and business professionals, including:\nMechanical, electrical, hardware and software engineers\nProduct Development\nQuality and Regulatory\nOperations and Supply Chain\nManufacturing partners and external suppliers\nYou’ll manage engineering responsibilities across multiple projects, identify and resolve technical challenges, and provide engineering input on design changes, supplier decisions, manufacturing processes and product costs.\nWhat You Bring\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.\n4+ years of professional engineering experience.\nStrong hands-on experience with mechanical design, materials, analysis and manufacturing.\nAt least 2 years of professional CAD experience using Creo, SolidWorks, Siemens NX or a comparable platform.\nWorking knowledge of GD&T.\nExperience developing mechanical design concepts, building and refining prototypes, and translating designs into manufacturable products.\nStrong creative problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate multiple technical solutions.\nAbility to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively across engineering and business functions.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience designing plastic components and working with plastic materials and manufacturing processes.\nFamiliarity with injection molding and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).\nProduct development experience in medical devices, automotive, aerospace or another regulated industry.\nFamiliarity with FDA and ISO requirements, design controls and engineering documentation.\nBasic understanding of electromechanical systems and the ability to collaborate with electrical, hardware and software engineers.\nKnowledge of medical device sterilization and biocompatibility requirements.\nExperience working in a global product development environment.\nWhy Join Medela?\nAt Medela, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to products that support patients, families and healthcare professionals while working with a collaborative team focused on innovation and continuous improvement.\nWe offer:\n$100,000+ starting salary plus bonus potential\nHybrid work schedule: 3 days on-site / 2 days remote\nComprehensive benefits package\n 401(k) with company match\nMoney Purchase Pension Plan\n16 weeks of paid parental leave\nGenerous PTO and 14 paid holidays\nAn opportunity to work on innovative medical device products from concept through commercialization\nReady to Turn Your Ideas Into Products?\nIf you’re a hands-on Mechanical Engineer who enjoys designing, building, solving problems and seeing your work become a real product, we’d love to hear from you.\nThis is not a job description.
