You’ll be deeply involved in day to day development while also helping set and maintain best practice engineering standards across our agile delivery squads.\nAround 70% of your time will be focused on delivering user stories as an active member of an agile squad. You’ll also spend time mentoring engineers, uplifting code quality and supporting our shared engineering standards. The remainder of your work will involve partnering with stakeholders to evolve our API capability to meet current and future business needs. Whilst API engineering will be your focus we're looking to help all of our engineers cross-skill into frontend technologies and design, so there will be additional opportunities to dive into the frontend.\nYour impact?\nYou’ll play a key role across the full software development lifecycle, collaborating with engineers, product managers and stakeholders to design and deliver reliable, secure and scalable API solutions.\nDesign and build maintainable, secure, scalable and well tested software.\nDevelop and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices used across our digital channels.\nContribute to planning, solution design, coding, testing, CI/CD pipelines, deployment and configuration activities.\nImplement robust authentication and authorisation patterns.\nParticipate in code reviews and help continuously improve engineering practices.\nBuild components that support architectural test patterns using modern engineering and design principles.Assist with overall system and solution architecture.\n\nWork closely with product, engineering and business teams to define clear technical requirements.\nMentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to a positive and supportive team culture.\nAbout you?\nStrong understanding of modern and legacy integration approaches, including APIs, SOA, message-based middleware, data modelling, and integration via staging tables or stored procedures.\nPractical views on effective vs ineffective system integration patterns, including REST vs SOAP, pub/sub vs request-reply, message queuing, and the role of ESBs.\nHands-on experience with Spring Boot, Apache Camel, and building APIs and microservices.\nExperience developing integrations using multiple languages and technologies such as Java,\nFull-stack development capabilities, with experience in modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular, or an interest in learning them.\nGraphQL, Node.js, and scripting across Linux and other operating systems (FTP/SFTP, etc.).\nKnowledge of AWS, including message streaming technologies and associated best practices.\nFamiliarity with build and automation tools such as Ant, Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, and Bamboo.\nExperience working in Agile environments (e.g., Scrum using Jira) as well as more structured delivery approaches.\nImagine working with us\nWe understand that work means different things to everyone...
