Under the direction of the Lead Worker and Custodial Foreman, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and professional work environments in accordance with contract requirements and organizational standards.\nThis position plays a key role in supporting Melwood's mission of creating employment opportunities and promoting workplace success for people with disabilities.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nThe responsibilities listed below are representative of the work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties assigned.\nFacility Cleaning & Maintenance\nSweep, mop, and maintain hallways, offices, stairwells, and common areas.\nEmpty waste and recycling containers and dispose of materials properly.\nDust desks, furniture, fixtures, and other horizontal surfaces.\nClean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and dispensers.\nClean glass surfaces, windows, partitions, and entryways.\nWash walls and other vertical surfaces as needed.\nVacuum carpets, rugs, and floor mats.\nPolish kick plates, door hardware, and other designated fixtures.\nGrounds & Seasonal Support\nSweep exterior walkways and entrances.\nRemove snow, ice, and debris from sidewalks, steps, and designated outdoor areas as required.\nEquipment & Safety\nMaintain assigned equipment in good working condition.\nFollow all safety procedures, security requirements, and contract specifications.\nNotify supervisors when supplies, materials, or equipment repairs are needed.\nPerform other duties as assigned by the Custodial Foreman or management team.\nMinimum Qualifications\nPrevious custodial, housekeeping, janitorial, or related experience preferred.\nAbility to learn custodial procedures, equipment operation, and safety requirements.\nAbility to pass required background investigations and security clearance processes for designated contracts.\nAbility to successfully complete pre-employment drug screening.\nFor designated set-aside positions, ability to provide documentation verifying a disability.\nStrong reliability, attendance, and teamwork skills.\nAbility to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions.\nPhysical Requirements\nReasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.\nStand for extended periods throughout the workday (approximately 80% of the time).\nWalk frequently throughout assigned work areas (approximately 15% of the time).\nOccasionally sit while completing required tasks (approximately 5% of the time).\nLift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.\nFrequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and balance while performing cleaning duties.\nUse ladders, stairs, cleaning tools, and custodial equipment safely.\nPossess sufficient visual ability, depth perception, and color recognition to safely identify cleaning products, hazards, and equipment indicators.\nCommunicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.\nEqual Employment Opportunity\nMelwood is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Drug-Free Workplace.
