Responsibilities:\nIn alignment with Mercer’s strategic plan and departmental vision, we seek applicants who will complement our department’s current areas of teaching and research expertise; in particular, we are looking for a biomedical engineer with experience at the interface of electrical or computer engineering. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in one of the following areas: Medical AI, Biosensors/Wearable Health Devices, Medical Device Info Security, or Diagnostic Image Processing/High Throughput Screening.\nThe successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and develop a strong research program aligned with their technical expertise. The candidate should be an effective communicator committed to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship, while supporting Mercer’s educational mission. Additionally, Mercer and our School of Engineering prioritize undergraduate mentorship and research opportunities; the successful candidate will be enthusiastic about and/or experienced with working with undergraduate research students.\nDuties include:\nTeach undergraduate courses in Biomedical Engineering to support the BME specialization curriculum\nTeach undergraduate general engineering core topics courses to support the School of Engineering\nTeach interdisciplinary upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses to support BSE and MSE programs in biomedical, electrical and/or computer engineering.\nMentor and support undergraduate research students.\nSupervise capstone design projects and support student teams\nEngage in scholarly activities and seek external grant funding\nMaintain a regular on-campus presence for face-to-face interactions \nEmploy sound pedagogical practices and appropriate instructional technology\nAdvise students and provide individual assistance during weekly office hours.\nParticipate in course and laboratory revisions and curriculum development.\nAttend department and college meetings and actively serve on college and university committees.\nParticipate in institutional events, including convocations, commencement exercises, and recruitment activities.\nQualifications:\nCandidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Ph.D. in Bioengineering, or Ph.D. in a closely related field from an accredited institution by the start date. ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor until the Ph.D. is obtained.\nAdditional Information:\nMercer’s undergraduate engineering program is ABET/EAC accredited. The School of Engineering offers both Bachelor of Science in Engineering degrees with specializations in biomedical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, industrial, and mechanical, as well as Bachelor of Science in human-centered information design and industrial management. The undergraduate curriculum is dynamic, innovative, and broadly based, and includes the option of an integrated BSE/MSE degree program for qualified candidates. \nThe school offers the Master of Science in Engineering degrees with specializations in biomedical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, engineering management, software, and mechanical as well as Master of Science programs in Cybersecurity, Environmental Systems, Software Systems, Technical Communication Management, and Technical Management. Total engineering enrollment is just over 650 students.\nMercer University is a private and comprehensive university and includes the Mercer Engineering Research Center in nearby Warner Robins, GA. The Macon campus includes the undergraduate campus, a medical school campus, and a law school campus.
