At Meriton, you’ll join a team that believes in big ideas, doing great work, and building careers that matter-every step of the way.\nAccounting Manager \nReports to: Business Unit Controller\nLocation: Columbus, OH\nFLSA Status: Exempt \n\nThe Opportunity:\nWe are seeking a strong Accounting Manager to support one of Meriton’s operating companies, Environmental Comfort (EC). The right candidate must be detail oriented, a self-starter, and have excellent organizational skills. The Accounting Manager must demonstrate strong Excel and other Microsoft application skills and be able to work well with others in a fast-paced, growth environment. Candidates with accounting experience in a construction, engineering, or HVAC environment are desired, but not required.\nResponsibilities:\nSupport the accounting team in overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process.\nPrepare journal entries and account/balance sheet reconciliations and complete variance analysis.\nMaintain and utilize financial analysis tools to prepare financial reporting packages.\nMonitor and ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and other internal policies and best practices.\nPerform and supervise reviews of projects to ensure that estimates are maintained accurately and that all job-related transactions are recorded in the appropriate periods.\nDirect and support the accounting team’s daily operations, accounts receivable/accounts payable activity.\nSupport the accounting team with monitoring customer collections and vendor payments while maintaining relationships with suppliers and customers.\nCollaborate with other departments (Sales, Operations, HR, etc.) to ensure alignment of business operations and financial goals.\nProactively identify and address discrepancies, errors, or irregularities in financial data. Work quickly and efficiently to resolve issues, ensuring that accounting records remain precise and reliable.\nAssist in and support process improvement projects.\nPrepare audit schedules and provide supporting documentation for external auditors.\nOther duties and special projects as defined.\nRequirements:\nBachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required\nCPA license is a bonus, but is not required\nStrong understanding and experience with US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)\nStrong PC skills in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn accounting system applications\nA desire and ability to support multiple locations\nHigh level of initiative with ability to prioritize, multi-task, and deal with ambiguity and manage projects\nExcellent communication skills, both oral and written\nOther Skills & Abilities:\nLanguage Skills\nAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.\nMathematical Skills\nAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.\nReasoning\nAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mental stamina for problem solving and prioritizing multiple tasks.\nPhysical Demands\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate computer keyboard and telephone, reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
