Our work directly supports the operation and efficiency of installations critical to the protection and defense of the United States. \nRemote employees must be based in the San Antonio area and able to meet with local clients as needed.\nRelocation will be supported.\nWHAT YOU'LL DO\n\nThe Mechanical Facilities Engineer III will work under minimal supervision to design HVAC and plumbing/piping systems for a range of mission critical to mission support projects. This role requires independent execution, sound engineering judgment, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. \nThe Mechanical Facilities Engineer III will serve as a key member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the delivery of coordinated design packages including drawings, specifications, and calculations. This role may include task-level coordination with engineers and designers. Periodic travel to project sites and other Merrick offices, including international travel, may be required.\nProject responsibilities include:\nPlan, conduct, and coordinate HVAC and plumbing system design, including engineering calculations, system layout, equipment selection, and development of construction documents.\n\nPrepare coordinated construction documents including plans, details, schedules, and specifications (Divisions 22 and 23).\n\nApply engineering judgment to resolve design challenges, including non-standard conditions, coordination conflicts, and constructability issues.\n\nPerform QA/QC reviews of mechanical designs to ensure technical accuracy and code compliance.\n\nSupport proposal development, including mechanical scope definition, fee estimates, and schedules.\n\nInterface with Federal, State, and Local government clients and participate in design reviews, charrettes, and technical discussions.\n\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS\n\nBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.\n\nMinimum eight (8) years of experience in HVAC and plumbing system design.\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license required.\n\nClient projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.\n\nTechnical Experience\nExperience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, or federal facilities.\n\nExperience performing engineering calculations and equipment selection for air handling systems, hydronic systems, and building domestic water systems.\n\nExperience developing coordinated construction documents (plans, details, schedules).\n\nExperience developing and coordinating Division 22 and 23 specifications.\n\nCodes, Standards, and Tools\nWorking knowledge of IMC, IPC, IBC, ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA.\n\nFamiliarity with DoD design criteria (UFC, UFGS).\n\nExperience with HVAC load calculation software (e.g., Trane TRACE or equivalent).\n\nProficient in Revit for MEP coordination; familiarity with AutoCAD.\n\nDESIRED QUALIFICATIONS\n\nExperience supporting federal or DoD projects (e.g., USACE, AFCEC, NAVFAC).\n\nExperience supporting construction administration (submittals, RFIs, site visits).\n\nLEED, Green Globes, or other sustainability accreditation.\n\nCurrent passport.\n\nTOTAL REWARDS & EMPLOYEE PROGRAMS\n\nEmployee Ownership – All eligible U.S. employees participate in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), sharing in the company’s success.\n\nComprehensive Compensation & Benefits – Merrick & Company offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including health insurance, dental and vision coverage, and paid time off (PTO).\n\nRobust Referral Program – Earn incentives for referring top talent to join our team.\n\nPerformance Reviews – Annual reviews to recognize contributions and support career growth.\n\nProfessional Development – Access to ongoing training and development opportunities to build your skills and advance your career.\n\nEmployee Recognition – Formal programs to celebrate achievements and outstanding performance.\n\nPeer Mentor Program – Get support and guidance through structured mentorship opportunities.\n\nAnd More – Additional programs and benefits designed to support your success and well-being.\n\nADDITIONAL INFORMATION\n\nApply online only.
