difference to people across the UK.\nYou will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of developers, designers, product managers, delivery professionals and technical specialists to build, improve and maintain secure, scalable and reliable digital services used by millions of people.\nYou will be responsible for designing and developing backend services and APIs, working with cloud-based development of modern government digital services.\nKey responsibilities\nDesign, develop and maintain high-quality backend services using TypeScript.\nDesign and implement solutions using serverless architecture and cloud-native development principles.\nDevelop and maintain applications and services using AWS, including AWS Lambda.\nBuild secure, scalable and reliable APIs and backend services.\nTranslate user and business requirements into reliable, maintainable technical solutions.\nWrite clean, well-tested and maintainable code following modern software engineering practices.\nWork collaboratively with frontend and mobile developers, designers, product managers, QA professionals and other technical specialists within an agile multidisciplinary team.\nParticipate in technical discussions, code reviews and architectural decision-making.\nDevelop automated tests and contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery processes.\nInvestigate and resolve technical issues, defects, performance problems and production incidents.\nConsider security, accessibility, privacy, resilience, scalability and performance throughout the development collaborative engineering culture and support colleagues through mentoring and knowledge sharing where appropriate.\nRequirements\nEssential technical skills\nCandidates should have demonstrable professional experience with:\nBackend Development\nStrong commercial experience developing backend services and APIs.\nStrong proficiency in TypeScript.\nExperience designing and developing solutions using serverless architecture.\nStrong practical experience with AWS cloud services.\nStrong experience developing and deploying applications using AWS Lambda.\nUnderstanding of event-driven and cloud-native application architectures.\nExperience designing secure, scalable and resilient backend services.\nExperience working with APIs, including RESTful APIs and integration with external or internal services.\nExperience with automated testing, including unit and integration testing.\nExperience using Git and modern software development workflows.\nUnderstanding of software engineering principles including clean code, modularity, maintainability, version control and appropriate design patterns.\nExperience diagnosing and resolving application defects, performance issues and production problems.\nAWS and Serverless Development\nCandidates should have a good understanding of:\nAWS Lambda and serverless application development.\nDesigning applications using a serverless architecture.\nAWS services and how they can be combined to build scalable solutions.\nEvent-driven architectures and asynchronous processing.\nAPI-based integrations and service-to-service communication.\nManaging application configuration, environments and deployments within AWS.\nCloud security and appropriate access-control principles.\nMonitoring, logging and troubleshooting cloud-based applications.\nDesigning solutions for reliability, scalability and cost efficiency.\nDesirable technical skills\nExperience with additional AWS services such as API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, CloudWatch and IAM.\nExperience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly AWS CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform.\nExperience with Node.js and the wider TypeScript ecosystem.\nExperience designing and developing RESTful or GraphQL APIs.\nExperience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.\nExperience with containerisation and Docker.\nExperience with event-driven architecture and messaging systems.\nFamiliarity with security best practices for cloud-based
