Let the right career opportunity find you and join us!\nHow you will make an impact?\nAs a Backend Engineer (Scala) in the Identity and Access Management (IDAM) squad within the Cyber Security platform at METRO Digital, you will be at the heart of the systems that govern who can access what across our global retail organisation. Your work directly secures and enables the digital identity of tens of thousands of customers and systems. You will design, build, and maintain high-performance backend services written in Scala, operating on top of Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security at every layer.\nPlease note that this role is open also for candidates in Brasov and Cluj.\n Your Responsibilities:\nDesign, develop, and maintain Scala-based backend services handling identity governance, provisioning workflows, and access management logic;\nCollaborate closely with the IDAM squad to implement and evolve core platform capabilities: role assignments, entitlement management, and lifecycle automation;\nWork on data persistence layers using PostgreSQL- ensuring correctness, performance, and resilience;\nDeploy and operate services on Kubernetes; contribute to reliability, observability, and on-call readiness;\nParticipate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture decisions within the squad\nSplit large initiatives into small, manageable microservices and subprojects;\nWork in an Agile/Scrum environment with short delivery cycles and close collaboration with product and security stakeholders. \n Required key competencies and qualifications:\nGood knowledge in Java/Scala (5+ years of experience);\nEnthusiasm for automating and automatically scaling tests and deployments with Docker and Kubernetes;\nExperience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and knowledge of IaC (Terraform);\nExperience with SQL and NoSQL databases - PostgreSQL;\nSecurity mindset when designing and building applications;\nInterest in splitting large projects into small, manageable microservices;\nAbility to communicate fluently in English (written and verbal);\nCuriosity and drive to constantly learn and adopt new technologies.\nNice-to-have:\nExperience with Datadog and the Play Framework;\nHands-on experience with secure authentication and authorisation mechanisms: JWT, OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and role-based access control (RBAC);\nExperience with event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar);\nCI/CD pipeline experience and DevOps practices.\n What we offer at METRO.digital?\nHybrid and agile work: thrive in a flexible, multicultural environment.\nAt METRO.digital, we promote work-life balance through a hybrid working model.
