Job Description Summary

The Wagner Lab at Miami University (https://wagneraqualab.weebly.com/) seeks a Research Associate. The goal of the position is to advance our understanding of anthropogenic stressors on aquatic ecosystems and fisheries, with an emphasis on climate change, emerging contaminants, invasive species, and land use change. The successful candidate will work with several dynamic and interdisciplinary teams that will develop integrative, multidisciplinary science to provide a system-level, comprehensive understanding of the factors affecting aquatic ecosystems and fish population dynamics. One-year appointment, renewable annually for up to two years, with additional years contingent upon funding availability.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Research: (60%): Conduct and oversee data collection, analysis, and manuscript writing.
  • Project/lab management (25%): Assist with establishing the Wagner Lab at Miami University, including overseeing projects, ordering equipment and supplies, and coordinating fieldwork.
  • Team Coordination (10%): Coordinate and facilitate meetings with project teams.
  • Mentorship (5%): There is the potential to mentor Miami undergraduate researchers and MS student researchers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Master of Science or Ph.D. in ecology, fisheries, ecological statistics, or a related discipline with a strong quantitative background.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skill.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.
  • Familiarity with the programming environment R, and Bayesian hierarchical modeling.
  • Successful candidate will have experience with boat and backpack electrofishing since candidate will be expected to carry out aquatic ecology and fisheries fieldwork.
  • Expectation to present research findings at scientific conferences and contribute to academic journal publications.
