We are seeking a Senior Application / Interface Layer Software Engineer to develop and maintain software interfaces for embedded systems products. This role focuses on application-layer and management-plane software running on dedicated hardware platforms.\nThe ideal candidate has strong experience building embedded software interfaces and APIs, understands systems-level communication protocols, and brings a disciplined approach to secure software design. You will work closely with firmware, platform, networking, and product engineering teams to deliver reliable, maintainable, and secure interface-layer functionality for a focused product portfolio.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign, develop, and maintain application-layer and interface-layer software for embedded systems\nImplement and support management and control interfaces using technologies such as gNMI, REST, gRPC, and related APIs\nDevelop software components that enable configuration, telemetry, monitoring, and device management capabilities\nCollaborate with firmware and systems engineers to integrate software across hardware and platform layers\nDesign software with a strong emphasis on reliability, performance, maintainability, and secure operation\nParticipate in architecture reviews and contribute to secure design decisions throughout the product lifecycle\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex system integration and interface issues\nDevelop unit tests, integration tests, and automation tools to validate software behavior\nCreate and maintain technical documentation, API definitions, and design specifications\nSupport software bring-up, debugging, and product validation activities\nRequirements/Qualifications:\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field\n5+ years of software engineering experience with embedded or systems-level products\nStrong programming skills in C++, C, PHP, or Python\nExperience developing and integrating APIs such as gNMI and REST\nUnderstanding of embedded Linux environments and systems programming concepts\nExperience with IPC mechanisms, networking protocols, and device management interfaces\nStrong understanding of secure software design principles and secure coding practices\nFamiliarity with authentication, encryption, access control, and secure communication methods\nExperience debugging software on embedded hardware platforms\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with network devices, telecom systems, or embedded infrastructure products\nFamiliarity with YANG models, protobufs, gRPC, or NETCONF\nExperience with cross-compilation, build systems, and embedded toolchains\nKnowledge of low-level networking concepts and telemetry systems\nExperience with automated testing frameworks and CI pipelines for embedded products\nExposure to real-time or resource-constrained system environments\nCompetency\nStrategic/Critical Thinking-Systematically solves problems and hypothesizes possible client pain points, expectations, and implicit needs; brainstorms with team members to devise solutions to solve complex client challenges \nNetworking-Identifies the right client stakeholders and builds connections quickly to drive consensus for design wins; works cooperatively with a wide range of internal stakeholders for success \nOwnership-Goes out of his or her way to complete a task and has relentless drive to achieve results; is independent and self-directed, and takes initiative.\nWorkflow Management-Sets clear, realistic, and time-bound objectives that align to business growth; breaks each objective into tasks and process steps that can be achieved within a realistic timeframe. \nPlease submit your resume along with a summary of your experience in embedded systems software, interface/API development, and secure software engineering.\nTravel Time:\n0% - 25%To all recruitment agencies: Microchip Technology Inc. does not accept unsolicited agency resumes.
